Exactly. i paid extra, why should i be bothered with a DRM? Who cares if other people pirate it and share?!

But.. but... why even have DRM on a prototype?

I refer you to Project Zomboid. They had no DRM on their initial builds and it got passed around and there was literally no incentive to pay.

I see. so... all praise Ubisoft DRM? all praise Diablo 3 DRM? i mean, what's the incentive to pay if there's a build with only the usual "Login once to activate" drm which can be cracked in no time?

@nenjin: Even so, why do you even care? The Humble Bundle site is hardly any Windows Live. In fact, you hardly need to spend 2 or 3 minutes on the site to get shit done. Your post just comes off as overly whiney.

Perhaps. Then again, considering a lot of people who paid for it can't get it to work, possibly because they're handing accounts between castlestory.net and the Humble Store.....perhaps not. Perhaps if they'd managed it themselves, I both wouldn't have to make an account on a service I don't plan to ever use...and people might actually be getting the product they already paid for.

I'm actually quite amazed that you've managed to never buy a humble bundle.

Just never been motivated by the offerings. Sure, it's cheap...but I have more games than I have time or desire to play. So when Humble Bundles come up for smaller, fun but casual indie games....yeah. None of it really appeals to me.

And if you had just remembered your damned Username and password for castlestory.net, maybe you wouldn't be having problems.

#1, I haven't tried yet. And #2, I really am coming to dislike people using their game offerings to drive traffic to a site. If it's an actual released game, I'll make the decision whether I want to buy from said site where it's available. When it's a demo, I already paid for, and the dev house decides to "do a square" to another website by giving them the traffic for it? That kind of pisses me off. I'd be just as unhappy if it was at Gamergate, Desura, Indiefort or half a dozen other outlets I don't use.

Game being released is one thing. A demo that people paid extra to get access to is another, one I don't think they should be using as a way to drive traffic to sites.

I heard that having a phantom bloc(k) selected busts the menu button. Deselecting the bloc(k) is a challenge in itself. I refer you to the bugs section of the Castle Story forum for help.

There is a reason why its called a 'Prototype'.  Its little more than a working demonstration model.

Awww, I lost my game when I put my computer to sleep without saving.  There goes half a day's work.

Probably no reason other than it giving them a larger B-peen.

Didn't have a problem getting it, maybe because I registered months ago instead of when their servers were getting the snot kicked out of them.

Game runs smooth as butter on good quality.

But good lord the control schema......it's completely backwards. Every simple key is something like zoom while two key combinations actually move the camera and rotate.

Also, does the World Editor work? Couldn't figure out how to place platforms to even begin doing stuff.

Haha yeah; I just can't get my brain to associate holding shift to adjust the camera... It is not like base WASD is used for anything else, so I see no need for the key combination... hopefully that will get smoothed out for the beta.

I hang out in their official IRC (irc.ospnet.org #CastleStoryOnline) and Thierry (community manager/webmaster) stated that they would be releasing updates to the prototype before going into beta.

This was not actually the issue...the issue they had was that the setup they were using it cost them every time someone downloaded the game...and so pirates were pulling tons of downloads and costing them money.

That is sad.

As I tested the...hrm..."unofficial un-DRMed version", I got no problems with their accounts system.

DRM are a mess that bother legitimate customers more than the "others". :(

On the one hand, it's nice because the game really delivers a sense of space....trying to build a stairway to another island, you really feel how granular the detail levels are.

On the other, it does make for some awkwardness when placing blocks. Kinda reminds me of Google Sketchup where angle is everything when you're building stuff. So you end up rotating a lot to get the block placement to do what you want. The difference between zoom and drop camera elevation can also be a little confusing. It also has slightly more regimented physical laws than DF.....which lead to about 5 aborted attempts to build a bridge between islands. Also nights are fucking DARK. Which puts a kink in trying to build stuff with accuracy, but hurray for darkness.

It's a good start....not sure if I'm a fan of things like "Groups" or how stuff gets designated. It feels like one step too many, but I'm sure it proves its usefulness later.

And it's got bugs aplenty. I think if you hit escape to see the game menu then cancel out of it, it doesn't come up again. So you have to crash the game to get out. Inexplicably you can't assign bricktons to groups, and then you can.

My smooth as butter comment has to be qualified a little. The FPS is fine but you can REALLY hear the game struggling sometimes based on the music. If the stutter is any indication, there's a lot of optimization to be done.
