Volcano map, no planning for the trip, terrifying biome

Decided for added kicks, to lock my dwarves in the mountain, causing a cave in  of the entrance tunnel. I didn't modify pop cap, so two immigrant waves were stranded on the surface, forced to fend for themselves on the snow covered rock face, treeless, waterless hell.

They all just died of dehydration.
===========================
27th Moonstone, 252

We 7 are doing well, we finally got a farm going, the only water in the entire embark was 6 z levels above the magma sea. 149 z's below embark

First attempt at irrigating a field nearly ended in doom, if not for sheer luck Urist Mcminer avoided drowning by swimming through the channel to a bank of the underground sea he used to flood the lowest levels of the fort.

Said level is newest cistern, all rooms cutrently in use are in the next higher Z.

We discovered a voracious cave crawler in the hallway, slain by our otherwise unemployed woodcutters and a dog.

Tunnel added to bring Urist McMiner back into fort and procurement of fungiwood for bed productions has been sealed, the morale boost from sleeping in a bed, instead of the rock floor, hopefully enough to keep us sane until we brew more beer.

Armok guide our picks.

Wouldn't this be better in the community section? Also, PTW

Recently I've seen a lot of community forts in the Dwarf Mode Discussion.

Also, draggin, if I were you I'd add pics. A lot of them

Well, they are always sent to die... Everything that happens in-between the embark and their demise is just glorious preparation for their relocation in hell... :P

A picture, sorry its not a screenshot, stonesense or anything, nor is it the full map, too large of a file in that attempt.

Also might be long gaps in updates, am an Over The Road trucker and I keep busy

what will get those dorfs?
old age?
death?
filthy cave crocs?
cru- im not that insane

besides. with the map pic, I have to say those midgets are doing a little bit too much. I guess that plot rock is unbreakable.

ohyeah and the caves they are mining out (automining veins?)

dfhacks vdig tool for mining the veins yes.

I usually never penetrate the caverns, ever. too much FUN in the early days of my DFing, figure now I might as well for food, trees, new pets. I try to learn one new thing per fort, there is still tons for me to learn, effective use of military, cages, making soap...

considering making surface dwarves do... something to keep them from starving, or should I edit pop cap in the init? I also usually play with invasions and artifacts off, one good tantrum would probably end a closed fort experiment.

I do believe I need to turn up the potential brutality now that a foothold is firmly embedded though.

I will accept ideas and suggestions for things to do to the closed community.

dual fort?

surface one for the midgets who though they would have home
and the current one for the hermits.

since they wont throw tantrums over the deaths of the outsiders, they would mainly be caring for the ones inside.
since they are sealed, there will always be seven dwarves alive.
the only mood problems would be when a dorf wants a tree... or a shroom.

so make on the soil levels tree farms.

oh yeah, and also. BIG LITTLE SEVENDORF MONUMANT

10th Obsidian 253, Late Winter

While we have not seen the light of day in years, we have it on good authority the Loonies on the surface have decided to Occupy the Volcano. In a desperate attempt to survive they appear to have checked the corpses for a pick and begun carving out some sort of way to survive. Without water, trees, food or Beer, I think it will be Nigh on impossible, I intend to laugh every time one of them drops.

An attempt to trade with some hastily crafted rock crafts, and no trading skills did get them some booze and food, it lasted longer as half the Loons feel dead as the transaction was finished.

I believe a crude hot water heater was set up, though it seems the snow went straight to mist...

little progress has happened inside the mountain as we are simply enjoying food, beer and a soft bed after our own trials.
Once we have some more metals to work with we shall be breaching the caverns.

contemplating constructing an air lock to provide our upstairs neighbors with some RedCross Survival Aid, we willl discuss it over dinner.

Crumbling, because the miner channeled on a 10z drop over the dining room, killing him and the other dwarves who were magically ALL eating at the same time

oyea, dual fort seems to be going :D

This really should go into Community Games.  There's an entire subforum exactly for games like this.
