I just started a new CI game again and I got two Koreans with the same name and face in the starting squad.
On a doomed first II mission I played recently, I had something similar happen. Three female soldiers, all with the, seemingly, same hair and face. (I was unable to check in barracks, as I never completed that mission.) They all spoke a different language, but that only made it seem more odd to me. They had different names, so they weren't as close as your pair, but still, it was pretty odd.

As for Portent, on the way back have 2 soldiers use the roof, leave the rest with the escort.

So wich class would you say is best mec material? Shock armor seems a bit unreliable and I don't know if stability is any good since I haven't tried the weapons yet. Body shield and distortion shield both seem very nice. Distortion shield seems like the best choice except it doesn't specify how nearby nearby is.

I'd say Shock armor is least useful, although every once in a while it comes in handy. The other three are all pretty useful. Only problem I had with distortion shield is that it's radius isn't all that far, so you're kind of setting yourself up for grenades if you rely on it too much. Really nice early game, though.

Stability is actually pretty good, especially if you like to lure aliens into a trap or you're relying on smoke cover to protect you during a firefight. Body shield is probably the most reliable overall since it doesn't require any special planning to use.

By the way, I tested Close and Personal last night with Rapid Shot and it doesn't work. That ended my turn, while doing a regular shot followed by Rapid Shot worked fine. So it's still just 3 shots at most. Which is still really nice.

yeah to get four shots you need either bullet swarm or CCS.

Personally I'd focus more on which class you subtract from your team rather than what the MEC bonus is.

Well, yes, there is that. Also depends on what you have a lot of. If the game only gives you one sniper, I really don't recommend turning him/her into a MEC trooper. If you've got 6 of them, going for a Sniper MEC is probably wise.

Also as to my barracks. It didn't stop at the full female squad, precisely 9 out of the 12 soldiers I started with were female. I decided to just go with it and discharge the 3 male troopers haha.

You do get an achievement for only using women.

It's not sextist if you want an Amazon Brigade. Plus, female soldiers don't instantly receive critical hits when they get shot in the groin, giving them an advantage.

That achievement meant a lot more back when there was a 3:1 gender ratio in favor of men.
