Training Roulette leaves weapon-specific skills untouched. So Snipers are guaranteed to choose between Squadsight and Snapshot on their second promotion.

I had a sniper with Snapshot and Close Combat Specialist. The latter got used all of one time when a stray EXALT trooper tried to blindside her after running around the building. And she missed, because sniper rifle.

And those two options hopefully do what their names imply, which is enable OpenGL and DX11 for rendering.

...It looks like Run and Gun...

Anyways, I've taken your advice, but could you try and explain what the difference would be? Do the OpenGL and DX11 run off of different hardware or something?

They run... well, different drivers, for lack of a better word. Different parts of the same drivers, and/or the same engine in a different way. DX11 is just more advanced than DX9 or DX10 (whichever the game uses by default), and OGL is a thing in and of itself that usually has massively different performance - though better or worse is highly case-specific. The HD4000 supports OGL, that much I know - and a game like Starbound, for instance, runs much faster in OGL mode than in DX mode on my tablet (which has the same GPU).

Alright. XCOM isn't working. Could be a coinkydink, let's try again.

Um. Same-looking problem twice in a row. Oookay.

Third time is NOT the charm. Each time, Windows says that it stopped working before it could actually start.

Hmm. Unfortunately, I deleted XCOM:EW from my tablet some time ago to save space (a 128GB SSD may be blisteringly fast, but it's terribly cramped), so I can't help you with testing this. I still wouldn't trust just anything somebody makes, however, especially if it uses injected code (as the above-described program surely does). I'll try to think of something when I'm not quite as asleep.

I beat Enemy Within with no deaths!
On easy mode.
And not Ironman.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Don't say that like it's easy. I had 33 deaths on my easy playthrough and didn't even get around to capturing an Outsider.

Partly because I kept failing to successfully assault UFOs, partly because of the lack of surviving arc-thrower-wielders on said missions.

Yeah...I beat Normal with only two deaths (one a nameless rookie, the other one of my best - ambushed and surrounded by elite mutons. He died like a boss though) and I was pretty terrible at the game. I still have not beaten Classic but its been a long time since I've played. Won't run on my laptop.

To be honest, I don't even know how its possible for you to be having such a hard time.

Yeah I've been wondering this for a while too.  Entertaining though.

Part of it can probably be chalked up to not understanding how LOS works. Or ranges. Or hit chances, past a few obvious pointers like "Cover makes it harder to hit" and "High Aim makes it easier to hit".

PArt of it can be chalked up to shut up.
