Why not both? Fully mechanized squad!

I was going to do that eventually.

I've taken a normal shiv along with my two mecs on a couple missions. The suppression was actually really useful. On a terror mission it was nice being able to just rush my robots at civilians or chrysalids without worrying about cover. On a bomb disposal mission the shiv was useful for scouting and suppressing thin men while my mecs nuked them with grenades.

Robots are swell. Now that I've gotten the little drone upgrade for shivs I'd imagine they'd be even more useful.

I also got Enemy Within in the sale and I'm loving it.

The only way that falcon punches rocket punches could be any more awesome were if the ragdolling corpses did damage to enemies they hit. The punch is amazing against chryssalids. I had one terror mission with 11 chryssalids. The punch alone killed probably 5 chryssalids and 5 zombies and in the end I had 24 aliens killed in that mission. By some miracle, everyone survived as well.

Did anyone punch a mechtoid to death, by the way? It plays a little wrestle animation that ends with the MEC rocket punching the mechtoid in the face. It's awesome, and was immensely satisfying to see after the that bastard killed my assault at the end of the base assault.

Also, what's up with the goofy-looking sleeveless armour for DNA-enhanced troops? I want the old non-goofy armour back.

There's a mod for re-adding the sleeves actually.

Ooh, yeah, there is!

Do mods negate Steam achievements and such?

Don't judge me! I'm vain like that.  :P

One of my mecs punched two to death in the same abduction mission. 'twas very awesome. One punchout animation took place with the mectoid positioned by a car, surrounded by smoke from smoke grenades, with my mec punching him towards the car.

The animation showed two giant robots battling it out in front of explosions and smoke. I regret not recording the scene on fraps, because it was totally badass.

I think I'm starting to hate cyberdisks more the thinmen, while in the middle of a base assault one of the damn things collapsed a walkway on a rookie with a rookie on top, nearly killed my first colonel, my soon to be colonel and that led to my other colonel to be nearly killed.

So I've beaten Enemy Within on Normal once, and I'm going for a second run-through. It's actually kinda hilarious now that I have a specific strategy: 3 assaults with Mimetic Skin, and 3 snipers with Squadsight. The assaults can run in and spot stuff for the snipers (also shotguns are not to be underestimated when they literally can't see it coming), and then snipers can sit back at the spawn point and have a snack while occasionally blowing an alien's head open with plasma from half a mile away. I'm considering switching one of the Assaults for a Heavy, for those annoying cases where cover gets between my snipers and the things I need them to kill. It still works hilariously well, though.

Ground tiles can't be destroyed in this game. If you can stand on it, it's indestructible.

I very distinctly remember playing multiplayer with my friend, and losing because my last ditch strategy was to attempt to have my berseker smash the mausoleum his unit was standing atop of, and to my annoyance, found that the roof just woundup floating there, despite me having broken the entire base of it.

A great place to test out Mecs, though. And what an amazing layout for squadsight snipers. Best bring someone with Up Close and Personal, though.

Or if the mission happens later than usual, SHIVs with the Sentinel Drone upgrade. Seriously, that one upgrade instantly catapults the humble SHIV from "injured rookie fill-in" to "terror mission must-have". Shaped Armor and Enhanced Servomotors (or Advanced Servomotors, can't remember) help too, but they're a far later tech.
