Nice isn't it?

Any enemy you see and can't touch gets blown to smithereens.

At least you don't get billed for the collateral damage, unlike apocalypse...

But you also won't get weapon parts and other thingies you might want after killing something dead with heavy ordnance.

That never has and never will stop me from blowing everything to shit indiscriminately and then burning everything we don't blow up.

That is why you show restraint.  Blow up their cover and only kill at most half of em with explosions.

Don't get me wrong.  I love me some dual wielding explosive AP cannons in real time mode.

AP? HERESY!
Real men use HE and IN for their autocannons.

That reminds me of a time when one of my autocannons (who was, of course loaded with HE and IN) got brainsucked while overlooking my troops. So. Much. Fire.

Admittedly though, despite my love of collateral damage, in Enemy Unknown (and probably by extension Enemy Within) maximum explosion isn't always the best strategy. Especially if you need new stuff.

Okay, doodz, I have a question. Does anyone know how to hax the newest update to force it to load from DefaultGameCore.ini? I changed the balance of the game, and it was wonderful, and would like to do so again, but I haven't the foggiest clue of which offset to change in the .exe in the newest patch to get the tweaks to stick.
You need to block it from phoning home, easiest way is to open up the windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file in notepad and add the lines
Code: [Select]
127.0.0.1 prod.xcom.firaxis.com
127.0.0.1 65.118.245.165

Note that for multiplayer you will need to remove/comment out those two lines and allow it to reset the data.

Did Enemy Within buff the aliens or some shit? I've been getting these bullshit critical hits and oneshots from aliens while behind full cover at the most inopportune times. It's absurdly cheaper than what I experienced in Enemy Unknown on Classic Ironman.

One time a sectoid managed to blast through the corner of a cargo crate I was using for cover to crit one of my soldiers. It shot through two layers of full cover, and with a freaking plasma pistol.

Another time a single thin man managed to kill off 3 of my four soldiers in just as many turns. It crit all of them. Actually, screw all thin men in general. There's countless times they pulled some bullshit on me and ruined the mission. The most absurd crit shots, or being able to move further in one turn so that even though I thought I was safe on the building top where the thinmen can't see me, instead it jumps straight up the rooftop, landing in half cover, and oneshotting one of my soldiers. I'm half expecting a 360 noscope critshot from across the map on my soldiers who are behind full cover, because thin men gonna thin my men.

I barely cleared the Portent council mission, because of those effing thin men. Lost 2 of my best troops, my highest ranking heavy(sergeant) and my only assault.

So, early game got way way way harder. Promotions take forever, equipment takes longer to set up, and those effing thin men are being thin men. Bloody hell.

I think Thin Men have become the new Chrysalids: something to be dreaded and liberally dosed with high explosive until everything stops twitching :P

In my normal mode experience, they stopped being scary after about the fifth mission. Unless they caught you in a kill zone.

I think that aliens start getting some kind of level bonus as you progress, early ones especially. Or maybe it's just that after a while, Thin Men remain the only ones to keep using the Light Plasma Rifle, with its little aim bonus.

No they don't. The only thing in this game that upgrades itself as you progress are Mutons. They switch from light plasma to heavy plasma.
