Nah, he's responding to this.  As long as we don't go too far off-track, I don't think it's exactly a bad thing for a one-off comment.
The expansion seems interesting, but is, in my opinion, far too expensive for the content it provides. Especially when comparing to stuff like what Paradox does or the free expansion coming out for FTL. I'll buy it when it is -75% in Steam sale. I don't want to support milking money with DLCs.

That said, to stay on topic...actually, I can't really say too much about my impressions, yet.  I picked up the expansion pack last night, but spent the whole time playing Aurora while it downloaded in the background.  I'll play it tonight, though, probably, unless I get distracted by Aurora again.  I honestly am somewhat optimistic about the expansion pack; I loved the base game, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the expansion pack's additions shape up.  Some of the talk about how it didn't really do much to deal with early-game sat-rushes makes me feel a little ambivalent, but even so, the soldier boosts and a particular new mission (even though it seems to be a storyline mission and not a general trend) both have me rather excited to give it a whirl.  It'll also let me finish the Slingshot DLC I picked up on sale quite some time ago, but never got all the way through.

So is this expansion out for the 360 version, or will it be sometime in the future, or... what? I've only seen talk about the PC version, and as someone with a pile of crap for a laptop, I'm anxious.

I believe it's free with an upgraded version that includes Slingshot.

The XBox version is available for $40. The devs claim that it's too big to be downloaded, so Enemy Within comes bundled with the base game and all the DLC. Thus, you don't have to own the original game. (Not sure about whether save files will transfer or not.)

PC gamers get the expansion for $30. Of course, you have to own the original game, and I don't think you get any DLC for free.

I've been eyeing up Slingshot and the new exp pack. Would you guys mind giving me a quick "is it worth it" over those two? The new expansion generally seems good, and I'll probably get it eventually... but it's pricey. Slingshot... I really want the extra cosmetics, but I am really worried about the SO MANY FREE GOODIES that the quest allegedly gives you. How bad is it?

You don't have to do the Slingshot missions if you have them.

Personally, I don't like the Slingshot quests all that much. They are interesting and well crafted missions, and worth doing once, but overall I find them to unbalance the game too much by giving you resources you shouldn't have so much of early on. The cosmetics are fun, though, so it's worth grabbing on sale for that alone. And I don't regret playing the slingshot missions the first time, I just don't have any desire to use them in future play throughs.

Alright, so MEC troopers are fucking insane.  I keep losing troopers to wounds and ill-timed enhancements, so one mission I had nothing but a squaddie MEC and 3 rookies.  I literally sent him alone to kill 4 sectoids, in full confidence that he would win.  Against thin men his health was quickly depleted, but still... 6 damage minigun, an ability that takes away overwatch aim penalties, and the ability to kill enemies by Kool-aid manning through walls.  What's not to love?

You can't get enhancements and laser rifles for the first terror mission, unless you perform an autoposy to speed up beam weapons.  Autopsies also unlock new genetic upgrades.  All of this means that South America might actually be competitive with Asia as a starting position now.  My start in II is definitely going to use MECs, as they make Crysallids trivial (although its very tough to have two of them by the terror mission).  In case you're wondering, the balancing factor on MECs is that they can't take cover...ever.  Using them requires using concealment, breaking LOS, and BLODDY MINDED MELEE RAGE.

The new AI is less skilled but more unpredictable.  A one health floater managed to take out the medic by leaping into concealment behind the squad, and then jumping over the wall to one-shot her.  Floaters also now use their ability to gain the height advantage on shooting, even if there is no cover around.  On the flip side, they've made some pretty stupid moves that I've seen.

The whole feel of the game has changed for me.  Between the time-based meld collection, the aliens attacking from all directions, and the MEC-troopers ignoring cover, the game feels much more mobile and fast paced.  The first mission that hints at EXALT is fucking brutal; the level was set up so that thin man could always hit you from roofs, and the alien drops had 2 3 alien waves, and then 2 1 alien waves.  I didn't check to see if they kept coming past that.  All in all I killed 13 aliens, 12 of them thin men... before the first terror mission.  While escorting a VIP.  I'm actually going to say that that mission + that level is unfair, although I had no casualties.  The new levels as a whole are difficult, but none of them so far are cover-less "murder streets", which is nice.  I've only played 2 levels that I recognized.

Sounds fun, I shall fork over $30 and not spend anything else on games until the new year.

And I shall wait until the new year, then fork over thirty dollars on multiple games. Hopefully including Enemy Within.

I reiterate my annoyance that, due to the fact I'm in Europe, I cannot get the expansion yet.

Son of a...Mother....FUUUUUUUUUUUU!

The latest update broke my game. I haxXed my .exe file to give my soldiers more pockets, and now it won't work at all.

Yeah... bad stuff tends to happen when hacked .EXEs get updated. Was it the save file that's broken, or the game itself?

Either way, one of the new features (at least in EW, not sure if they patched it to the base game) is an upgrade that gives additional pockets for all soldiers. So you may not have to mod the game in the future! :)
