It came out? I remember it started as a bland FPS remaster of X-Com, but got a rewrite once Firaxis' plans hit public knowledge. I remembered it being dropped due to budget concerns and time cost though... but I guess not.

Oh well. Modify my earlier statement accordingly. Still makes for a fun subtle jab.

Highly simplified timeline:

* Devs showed XCom shooter to public.
* Public screams bloody murder.
* Devs retreat.
* Different devs release XCom: EU, game is highly praised.
* With little fanfare, original devs release shooter as The Bureau. Receives mixed/negative reviews.

On-topic: I doubt they're the same continuity. It wouldn't surprise me if at least some aspects of EXALT's appearance was inspired by The Bureau, though, as a semi-subtle jab:)

They also have the same logo and weird motto, a motto which can have varied meanings depending on who you ask and I'm not even sure if Firaxis know what they wanted it to mean or what it does mean.

That's X-Com's motto. He's talking about Exalt. At least I think he is.

No I meant X-Com, was my fault, not really quoting.

I like that Exalt troops are designed to look like the dudes from that failed X-Com Declassified game.
Do you mean The Bureau: X-Com Declassified? The one that's out? This one?

Maybe the big reveal is that Exalt is the remnants of The Bureau.

I don't think they share the same continuity

They also have the same logo and weird motto, a motto which can have varied meanings depending on who you ask and I'm not even sure if Firaxis know what they wanted it to mean or what it does mean.

So saying Firaxis are doing some weird thing in continuity between The Bureau and XCOM

Well, Vigilo Confido means "Watch, for I am confident", which I think is appropriate because X-Com has always had this strange mix of Puny Humans, and Oh Dear Alien God Help Us, The Humans Are Here.

I like to think of it as quickly fluctuoating between "Oh dear human god the aliens are coming"  and "Oh dead alien god the humans are coming".

Confido doesn't mean confident though. Confido can mean trust or reliable or neccessary. Latin is a bloody evil language and it's complete death can't come quick enough.

I also advise watching the Monty Python youtube video on that page as well.

I'm not sure how you broke your link, but you did.

Anyway, I like the translation "In Vigilance We Trust."

I interpreted confido in the sense of "In Confidence/Secret"

Thus "We are the Secret Watchers"

Who's the guy with the Latin quote in his Sig? The one that says all Latin quotes sound important?

That... actually sounds much cooler.
