I find it a bit odd that they'd have the resources to make their own MEC troops, ghost armor, etc, though.

Yeah. Hopefully that'll get addressed in-game.
I thought it was decently addressed in the article. They're stealing from X-Com.
Rereading it, the article's kinda vague on that point. It just says that they'll use alien weaponry and equipment like XCOM, but not where they'll get that stuff.

*shrug* We'll find out when the expansion is released, I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if the aliens were secretly providing them with equipment to help 'even the battlefield'. It sorta ties in with their motives (which I can never exactly remember/understand).
Aren't they against the aliens too? I mean they're still human right, and it sounded like they were attacking aliens to steal their tech?

I have no clue. But given my little understanding of the alien's grand plan, I can see them using thin men and the like to supply EXALT for no-doubt nefarious reasons. I could easily be wrong though.

Directly supplying the humans (instead of indirectly, like they do with XCOM) seems contrary to their "tough love" plan.

From the sound of it, they're exploiting the invasion as an opportunity to push their own agenda. They aren't 'against' the aliens, as in they don't think stopping the invasion is their responsibility. They also aren't 'with' the aliens, as in the aliens aren't giving them resources to fight humans. They're like looters stealing during a riot; they don't support the rioter's perspective, they assume the problem will be dealt with by someone, and they're hoping to get as much benefit for themselves as possible before the opportunity blows over. It probably never crosses their mind that humanity as a whole could be wiped out if they don't stop disrupting the one organization capable of saving the world.

Note that the EXALT guys were using laser weapons; that's clearly stolen tech from XCom, not alien-delivered kit. And human-enhancing modifications isn't the kind of tech generally available from non-human organizations. It sounds like they're stealing tech from XCom, not getting direct support from the aliens. Maybe they've got a Thin Man infiltration problem at the highest levels of the org, though...

I just don't see how one could steal genetic augmentations, as those require some serious infrastructure to apply.

Personally I think they're stealing technology from XCom which says a lot about the security.

Anyone else have a feeling that they're going to try to do a raid on the base for the research and supplies?

Edit: What did ya know?

I imagine this adds a very, very useful new utility to psi soldiers.

Yeah, since you can't bring any equipment on the infiltration mission.

Edit: Damn, XCOM trailers are all always so cool.

Then again, your agent is going in alone, unarmoured, and nearly unarmed. Do you really want to risk one of your few Psi-capable agents in that kind of situation?

...I didn't actually mean for that to be a rhetorical question. Rather, it's an interesting tactical question: would you risk a skilled Psionic soldier, who's considerably more capable of surviving unarmed, but is still highly vulnerable?

Well there you go, Exalt is a rogue splinter of X-Com. No wonder they have their equipment. I'm going to go ahead and guess that is the danger of augmenting your soldiers too radically, because it makes them more vulnerable to falling to Exalt's point of view.

What I think would be cool is if there were two different potential splinter factions: one if X-Com embraces transhumanism, lead by Shen, and one if it rejects it, led by Vahlen. The anti-transhumanist faction would be called Pure, considering Exalt's name.

Why would Shen be the one embracing it? He's always encouraging caution.

Mind control on a heavily armed EXALT operative could be decisive...

I wonder if base defense will be an Exalt only thing, or both Exalt and Aliens, and if it's a one time thing, like the base assault.
That being said, I'm excited for base defense, given the sort of "red alert all personnel to battle stations" kind of feel.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

If X-Com embraces transhumanism, Shen forms the splinter faction of anti-transhumanists.

I'm excited for the potential of an X-Com vs. Aliens vs. Exalt battle. I really, really hope they go with what I think they're going for and don't just make them alien worshipers. The alternative is far more interesting.
