Really, really, really bad luck is what that was.

Actually, iirc, the only requirement for an the Volunteer is wearing the psi armor. I remember I slapped it on a rookie, bringing him up to 90 will, and it made him eligible. Didn't use him, but could have.

Also, what difficulty are you playing on?

If they struck full force, they would kill off a good percentage of humans. That is what you can't seem to comprehend

The number of humans you would need to kill before they "win" is rather low. Given they know exactly where all the military bases are in the world, they could have crippled us in the first strike.

Not to mention they have the ability to disable us without killing us... though the game doesn't give enough focus on the goo bombs.

Uhh.. Pretty sure you can't do that with a rookie.. Even with the Psi Armour (+20 Will) and the Mind Shield (+30 Will) you'd still need a guy with a base of 40 Will for you to have done that, which would take a few level ups.

I'm not playing it right now. It's happened to me once on Easy, and possibly more than once on Classic. Never on Impossible or Normal though.

Yeah by that time in the game you probably had New Guy so that makes a bit more sense. Isn't 40+ Will pretty rare even for a squaddie though?

Well, if you're using some of the Second Wave options you could easily have a Rookie with 50 Will.

Don't forget there is also a upgrade you can get to have rookies with more will.

That's plausible. Were you Hugo? Or was he just a badarse squaddie?

I've got a squad right now made up of units that had 60+ will as rookies (after New Guy) so definitely possible.

Neat. I lost that habit of checking my guys' stats like in UFO Defence so it's good to have a refresher now and then.

Yeah, the random stats thing can give you really incredible characters. Heavies with 100 aim are ludicrous.

Of course, you can also get really terrible characters. Like a Sniper with less than 50 Aim. Such is life.

Because humans have a rich history of giving up when the military has been defeated.
