I'm going to start a new game with the warspace mod and see how that goes. It looks promising.

If you love X-COM, you should know Beaglerush. Ironman Impossible is probably the best X-COM video series out there.
I enjoy the game... I generally don't watch other people play it.

Is it even possible to survive past the first month on Impossible with all second wave options on? That seems a bit... actually impossible to me.

Heck, I just tried an II run with all the cheat soldiers, and 8 nations dropped out before I could get a 2nd satellite up. And that was without any failed missions.

I got to the end of the second month with all the second wave options you get for beating the game on the third difficulty once.  Took a bit of planning and luck though.  Couldn't get any further without losing some nations though.

That's what I don't like about Impossible. That you can do everything you possibly can but your playthrough can be doomed from the start because of bad luck in the geoscape.

For once when a game has a difficulty called impossible they didn't just mean a slightly harder difficulty with a silly name.  Though not quite impossible as basic it is pretty close in some cases.

But it's only impossible sometimes. It's entirely luck-based, and you won't be able to tell if you have the right initial conditions until you've wasted many hours of your life thinking you might have a chance. I'd prefer to fail ironman from some really BS piece of bad luck in the middle of a mission than pick my missions carefully, pull them off flawlessly, but still lose because you only get so many missions per month yet the panic in 8 different countries goes critical without you even getting a chance to put up satellites.

It is technically suppose to be really impossible. Even the devs are surprised that people are beating it.

If you can get the three satellite start Impossible should be doable.  It's true that every now and then you get your first UFO too late to do that, but that's only one/two missions in.

It really does say something that they designed Impossible with the assumption that nobody, or at least very few people would be able to beat it, only for the X-Com fanbase to beat it so often that Second Wave was required.
