You did wait too long,  a Sectopod only appears in the base as compensation towards your tech level. The presence of Sectopods complicates that situation at any tech level.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

I just hate how it's hard to know what the LoS will be from a position, or if it will be flanking shot or not, it's annoying when there is no cover inbetween LoS of you and the alien yet the alien still gets cover bonus from the wall or some crap, LoS is even worse, especially on some of the map designs where a thin man pops out and goes "hurp derp I was hiding behind the bench, now im gonna flank all you guys hurr hurr!"

Or the small cemetary one where the SUV somehow block out vision of the whole graveyard even though your guy is peeking over the hood. That's annoying.

When I start having LoS issues my normal response is to just blow everything up.

Gonna end my current playthrough.

I got 3 psi candidates. Assault with about 80+ will. A sniper with gunslinger skill and 90+ will. A corporal rank support with 80+ will.

The will boost from psi inspiration affects psionics or is it only a defense boost?

Is mind control better than telekinetic field for the final mission?

You should know better. You can't see 'over' any full cover, only around it! :(
Like its a wall thats taller than you, y'know? :-[

And rightfully so. You know how in most games you only look exposed at a chest-high wall for gameplay perspective? Well, in this one you are actually exposed if you try to hide behind a chest high wall. You can get shot without the solider moving there, while full cover has an animation for getting hit, during which your stupid solider sticks their stupid head out from the cover and gets shot in their stupid face.

Well, they have to stick their heads out to maintain tactical awareness :P

If I am working for X-Com, I already have all the tactical awareness I need. I am aware that allium hot plasma death is behind every corner, including from my so-called comrades, and the only correct tactic is to wait patiently in a corner and shoot everything that moves.

No wonder they always miss…
Clearly they think they don't need to use their EYEBALLS in order to shoot properly….  ._.

looks like my ironman classic is finally turning around. I went through 3 or 4 months of no wins and constant party wipes, but I had enough satellites up to keep hiring more noobs. Eventually i hit a string of easy missions and i have a few majors and top end gear. With any luck I will be able to walk them up to colonel and take out the cathedral.

Isn't that what the S.C.O.P.E is for? So they don't have to look with their regular scopes?

Due to my carelessness and stupidity, I lost 2 of my psi and lost half of my best men on a medium scout ship. I even lost by best medic.

Stupid cyberdisk deathblossom, killing my downed men. Stupid ethereal reflecting double shot alloy cannon.

How are you supposed to deal with Ethereal deflection, anyway? Grenades?

overwhelming firepower and hoping they dont reflect everything.

Tbh though ethereals never bothered me, they are only ever 1 there and normally hiding away in a room, the worst losses I suffered from an ethereal was some in a large scout and a rocket misfire which blew up the control room wall giving ethereal lots of LoS while other aliens are still around (including damned Sectopod).

Otherwise its easy to just force through once you reach the ethereal, mind control the muton guard and take out the bastard.
