Woah, you can rotate your camera with the latest patch. Yay!

Pretty sure it was possible to rotate the camera before the patch, unless i'm mistaken.

Anyway, game unlocked for me an hour ago though i slept in a bit so i got on after it unlocked, but since it's downloading the patch it means my first personal experience will be that little bit less buggy. :D
You could. I was rotating like a fool first night this thing unlocked, and rotating the camera was part of the demo, I believe.

Just finished the demo.  5 gigs for 30 minutes of playtime, most of it with a death grip on your hand so you don't do anything crazy like think or act for yourself.

I remember when you could get 5 hours out of a 30 meg demo...  But enough about that, let's talk about this.

First of all, I'm not actually going to make a big deal about some of the stupid things they do in the demo as far as the writing is concerned.  Yes, some of it is stupid.  And Dr. Wahlen apparently can't speak German worth a damn.  But these are small issues, minor peeves, and not hugely associated with the gameplay itself.

But then there's magic wallhack shooting.  And silly, silly, silly SILLY SILLY user interface, as everyone has been commenting on.  Don't include a "change elevation" tool if you're just going to ignore it anyways.  And don't include a grid-based movement selection if you haven't got a bloody clue how to do it.

I of course couldn't get a particularly good idea of the game from just that demo, seeing as it doesn't let you do anything...  But I wasn't hysterically impressed as of yet.  I do appreciate the effort, though, and I like that they're keeping to some of the original concepts.  But I'll have to sit out and wait until some lovely heaps of data arrive for me to snuffle through.

Fun bits:  In the demo, the final part of the final mission is a big factory room with two thin men loitering around.  I'd moved a guy around the building to peek in the window, rather than betting everything on the route they want you to take through the front door.  Soon as the guy looks through the glass, TM#1 hurls himself through another window, Neoleaps onto the building, runs over to where a third window is, and drops down again.  TM#2 stays rooted to the spot and instead shakes his pistol menacingly at the chunk of wall my guy is hiding behind.  He continues to shake the gun, without firing or doing anything else, while the assault trooper runs up to a crate next to him and introduces him to a balanced breakfast of lead cereal.

When wallhuggerman moves around to get a look at TM#1, the thin man stands up, does a pirouette, smashes his elbow into the window behind him, and then fires in the general direction of my guy.  Why that window needed to die, I may never know.

Hm, your post is somewhat... cryptic. From what i can gather from it, it would appear you're referring to something you have a deep hatred for? Or am i wrong about that? You really need to make your posts clearer man.

XCOM just hates windows period. Soldiers and aliens jump through windows at the slightest provocation, they smash them at every opportunity. I've seen civilians gleefully run behind cover next to aliens just to jump through windows. That seemed to be literally the only reason they moved around. Just to smash a window the only way they could (ie. with their entire body). It's perplexing, really.

I refuse to accept this.  First these damn Thin Men selective choose what they want to use Overwatch fire on.  Then they free nail targets in full cover from all the way across the map.  That didn't actually kill anybody, it just set off a panic of chain reaction that saw two squaddies kill each other.

Thin Men don't even bother me anymore, other than their poison spit clouds. It's hard to take them seriously when one jumps into the map from above...right into the sight lines of five elite soldiers on Overwatch. I don't think the poor bastard even had time to realize the mistake he made :P

I really don't get this.  Everyone else acts like Thin Men are some big joke who dance around and get popped like skeets.  Every single mission I've faced them in saw at least half the squad die, if it didn't turn into a total wipeout.  They dodge shots like the Matrix, never ever miss, and come from goddamn everywhere.  I've lost more soldiers to Thin Men than every other threat combined.  This can't just be bad luck.

They're a threat at first, for sure. Much bigger than the Sectoids. Thing is, after a while you get to the point where your skills and equipment are more than a match for them, and they cease to become anything more than an annoyance.

I'm never going to get to that point, because fucking skinny bastards keep killing all my good soldiers and botching my critical missions.

It's a hell of a Catch 22 that all spirals around balding men with ugly glasses.

I...honestly don't know what to say, Aqizzar. Even when I was playing on Classic difficulty, I never lost a soldier to the Thin Men. Sectoids, yes. Chryssalids, yes. Floaters, yes. Hell, even the first Outsider I saw got a kill in on me, but never the Thin Men. They're quick, and they blow up into poison gas clouds...and that's about the extent of the threat to my troops.

WTF, man? (Watch, now that I've said that, one Thin Man will TPK me.)

In over twenty hours of gameplay, I'm yet to lose a soldier to those slenderman wannabes.
