In the new game it's not a secret, in the trailers they have it as a news report starting it off.

In the old game the Aliens want to keep it a secret war as they subvert governments, dunno if that is the same in the new one, but I suppose they have the thin men.

If the Russian government killed 50 civilians and said they were trying to kill 10 terrorists we'd just roll our eyes and go "oh that Putin".  So there are some places like that where X-Com could keep things under wraps.

I'm pumped! Going to preorder this tonight at BestBuy. I originally thought I wouldn't be able to afford the game for a while, but then I realized I had a 50 dollar gift card collecting dust in my wallet!
I'd normally pre-order on Steam, but honestly the bonuses on Steam did little to enthuse me. I don't play TF2, and everyone I know who'd want civ has civ (including me). Plus, of course, the aforementioned gift card (afore mentionioned? Not sure if there's a space there, never actually typed the word out before, odd).

You could have someone buy a game as a gift for you on steam and give them the gift card you have.

Sorry, I didn't realize it was a BestBuy specific gift card. I just figured he could pre-order with some other non-steam store.

Yeah, gift cards are pre-paid; he gives them money by not using it. So be sure to use the entire thing, down to the last cent, and nothing more.

So? The gift card has ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR. Bestbuy has the money already. If you refuse to use the card then bestbuy gets free money.

Well, it's 60 bucks at bestbuy, so they'll get 10 dollars (plus tax) out of me. But I'll try to scuff my shoes on the floors a bit to leave those little rubber streaks, and hope it costs them at least 10 dollars (plus tax) extra to clean that spot of floor.
