Eh, I can always delete stuff to free up the needed space. Upgrading graphics cards or processors costs money, so that's my bigger concern.

Does it say that the installation will take that much? Usually intensive software like games work better if there's a lot of free space.

On the other hand, I tried to install DC Universe and I think it does take something like 20 GB :P but then again those MMO-like programs are always growing.

I remember reading that the new Max Payne was 35 GB. So... yeah.  :o

Yeah, games are getting huge. I'm glad I didn't skimp on my harddrive when I got this computer. Although I should probably take half the steam games on it off now. Its getting a /tad/ ridiculous.

O.O

The rest is swap space and probably shouldn't be filled with anything.
There, all fixed.

Swap space?
Prevailing attitudes are that you should leave about 10% of any hard drive available for it to rearrange stuff. If you don't, it makes the computer crawl like a mother because it has to break every "move this file here" command into the smallest available piece.

Aye, its actually a really annoying way of having to move stuff around. Imagine you have an ikea table. You want to move it across the room. Now usually you'd just pick it up, but you've used up all available room, so you have to move it in its separate pieces.

(I don't care if that wasn't a perfect metaphor i've wanted to use an ikea table in one since forever)

I've cleaned some games I don't play and Star Trek episodes, leaving only the best ones.

+2gb to smaller partition (20gb, 4.5gb empty) and +20gb to the 'storage' partition (60gb, now 28gb empty)

This works? :P

Looks like it'll do nicely.

Whilst hdd space isn't an issue to me, I like the concept here.

#1. Low system requirements. If things aren't compressed, it takes less cpu time to move them around. 2gb ram isn't huge, and there might be some way of squeezing that down a bit. But most PCs should have 2gb available. Cheap upgrade if it doesn't.

#2. It makes me think of the words Raw Graphic Data Files and Uncompressed Text Data. That means extreme moddability and save file changes. If the hood isn't all buggered up, you can play with the bits.

#3. HDD space: It's the cheapest expansion you can make to a computer. Space can be hdd, usb, cd, blueray, anything. It takes a couple of programs, but windows can be made to not know the difference. There will probably be a minimal install of some sort hopefully, with less voice acting/music/fx. Sound eats up huge chunks. So do save files, thinking uncompressed DF saves. How big is the actual base game of DF? At least storage is cheap.

All in all, 2ghz dual core with 2gb ram, dx9, a fair bit of space, is pretty do-able for most people. I reckon it'd run on a slower dual core (netbook) if you really needed it to.

Fortunately, my rig will be better than the base, so I'm cool with the specs. Go-go cheap 640gb hdd's.

Shogun 2: Total War = 29.2gb with both expansions.

I really wish game companies would focus a little more on compression. Having all this space is fine and all, but it shouldn't mean you don't practice efficiency.
