Turns out Gameinformer is doing a Q&A with the developpers here. You'll have to post your questions in the comments section.

Another instance of 'Dohon spams XCOM'! Rock Paper Shotgun is doing a 3-part interview with Firaxis. First part is up here. No concrete game info, but they do go deeper than Gameinformer did. At least, I believe they did.

EDIT: Second part here.

EDIT 2: Third part here.

You know what?  As  read that second part, I have faith in these guys.  This is a group that I would pre-order from.  I trust them to do right by the IP.

It's cruel for them to release it over 3 days.  I want that last part now!  I am really liking what he said about how they approached the game and how it's been developed.

I AM going to put those on my ships and I do use the heavy laser because I think the elements they put in there originally in the flow, I can play. I’m good enough now to win by not min/maxing so it’s fun now to use all these elements that for the last couple of years I’d avoided using because they weren’t optimal.

I think Janet will be pleased.

I'm not sure, but I think that Janet approves of lasers. It's very subtle though...

They did all kinds of interesting things with, maybe not Terror From The Deep, except made it brutally harder and made the cruise ships four times longer than any human could realistically make, but they did awesome stuff with Apocalypse and that’s the funny thing, I don’t even think we’re as far away as Apocalypse is.

That and the part about the Cyberdisk in the gas-station, and riffing on Skyrim's interface, have such a ring of showing a passport.  I'm willing to believe him.

And so, then you have these experiences, and the game just continues to reveal itself to you and you’re like ‘what the shit?’ the first time you meet Chrysalids let’s say.

The only time in the interview that he gets profane.  Admittedly, anyone with a cursory knowledge of X-COM also knows that freaking out about Chrysalids is kinda old-hat, but it's old-hat for a good reason.  You always remember the first time.

And we appreciate it, Dohon.

I had faith in the ability of Firaxis to make a good XCOM game from the moment it was announced.  Every single thing I have read/watched/heard so far has helped to reinforce this.

I wonder if the music in the podcast is the x-com's music for battlescape. That would be awesome indeed.

this is one of those rare instances that I'd feel comfortable paying the full price.

provided that the full price means its 45 euros (but with game prices being different all around the world (unfair buggers) that doesn't say much)

I am much more excited since I listened to the podcast.

Apparently classes only make your guys more proficient at certain things, apparently any guy can use any item in the game.
