Uh, those green condoms were not "condoms". That was their very skin.

Check the autopsy report again. They were big pink guys wearing neon green tights.

Checked the wiki. It is something biological grafted on their skin. It is essentially their new skin.

Mk. Here we go then.

See that purple dead thing? That's a muton with its grafted armor removed. It's not skinless, since they peeled back the skin from the organs. The armor is grafted, so they aren't born with it, so they need skin. The autopsy report even says 'skin' to clarify that it is not, in fact, skin. It's not skin, it's a grafted armor suit party-time body condom tattooed to pink flesh. This gets worse every time I think about it.

Besides, live ones have pink faces where their skin-that-isn't-skin... isn't. That's not exposed, raw musculature.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Could you elaborate on what makes it sound like a dumbed down console port, because right now all I'm hearing is "hurgh blurgh only indie game good"

The future of the planet dependent on 4 soldiers,1 base of operations, unlimited ammunition, just to name my biggest concerns.
Now don't get me wrong I would really like for someone to redo xcom, I am just not holding my breath for this one.

Have you been following this thing, at all?

You have four soldiers to start. You upgrade somehow (might be as simple as building more barracks) to hire more.

You have one main base, but can build additional hangers and stuff to spread your forces.

Unlimited ammunition is admittedly a little weird, but I never seem to run out anyway. Every dead alien is more plasma ammo, bullets are dirt cheap, and lasers have always had unlimited ammo.

I see you haven't played TFTD.
Not that I recommend it.

A fun thing in a thrawler mission that you have to scavenge ammunition of the dead lobstermen since you've got no more.

Also the 4-guys thing is not bad gameplay-wise maybe, but it's just that no real-life force would send 4 guys to battle the unknown.

"Jeff, we've got some unknown small creatures with some sort of laser guns attacking everyone, deploying some sort of machines that kill a human in a matter of seconds, they seem to be like aliens or some shit."
"Ok, let's send four guys."

If that happens though, well, it's just something we'll have to live with :D.

-snip-

Who would fund an organisation to stop an alien threat, something that could be the end of the world as  we know it by the way,who doesn't even know how to transport more than 4 people and their luggage to an area.

Maybe we don't start with national funding - maybe its just started by one somewhat wealthy guy who's like "SOMEONE HAS TO DO SOMETHING!"

Or we are funded, but it's closer to "funded", where in reality we're an afterthought who isn't taken seriously (until we prove ourselves by actually succeeding despite the odds, of course!)

Or maybe a press demo isn't the best representation of the game, anyways.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

There was this argument, and as I've said before, they have a base, fighters and transporters and all that jazz, but all they can hire are four troops? No sense here.

Or, more likely, maybe they can only afford one plane, and since it needs to be both a strike craft and a transport it can only seat 4 plus pilots plus equipment.

Well, SWAT sends like 5 guys into a room, but they're being non-lethal, with flashbangs and all. X-Com guys just toss in those really high explosive grenades and shoot whatever's strong enough to live.

It makes sense, though. Too many people just mean too many crazy guys shooting each other. Especially when the little weapons can level entire buildings.

Is the four guy thing a issue when saying it will not be as good as the first one? Because eight guys does not make any more sense to me. So it would come down to balance, for me at least. Balance that we do not know about.

It really depends on the number of aliens. But the more the merrier anyways.

What? It's clear from the first game that a group of 10-20ish guys is all that's needed to clear a terror mission, no matter how big the city is. Or an alien base with cloning facilities. Or the primary base for all alien activity on earth. 20 guys. 4 is 20% of the needed manpower for any operation of any scale, and as such is patently absurd!

/sarcasm, if it wasn't obvious.

Balance is the key issue here. If the maps are smaller and more immediate, smaller squads would be more interesting to work with, especially if it eliminated the traditional mission-ending "find the last sectoid" parties. I always found an Avenger packed like sardines to be overkill on the headcount anyway, but I played slowly and used small unit tactics and HWP's to keep soldiers safe, so I'm a freak anyway.
