(response to flaming removed)

You wanna hate on the Civ series, make a "Let's hate on the Civ series" thread. This thread is for discussing a different game, same developers (is it even the same team of people?) notwithstanding.

Pardon? Yeah, easy tiger(s). I made one comment regarding the priorities of the developers who will be making the game that this thread is about. Relevant and not a massive departure, calm down.

calm down, everybody, don't get your knickers in a twist. oh, and stuntaneous, please if you don't have faith in the developer, say so, don't say that this game will suck because the last game they made sucked.  :P

moving on from this departure. i believe that the sectoid in the screenshot is merely crouching, not being a wild beast. or maybe it's a basty version of the sectoid... intriguing.

Not really. What you said amounted to "Firaxis sucks, cos they made civ5. [they will make this game suck through sympathetic magic]". If you have something to say- say it clearly. Is your suspicion that they will make X-Com too easy?

just one question.

and these are what? they look like generic space marines. well, not the ones in jumpsuits, but the other ones do. but otherwise it's too early to judge. and judging by only one picture really isn't a great way to raise and lower your expectations. just sayin'.

What the fuck am I reading? They're all literally the exact same look as the original Xcom.

but #13 is just stupid. no, no background info, please. i mean, really? god.

They said that it should be like the original, with scarce information from research and no cutscenes, and I agree with that, that made the atmosphere of the original creepy.

yes, but the original HAD background info. (dissection, live samples capture, etc.) it made the aliens have background, and they seemed like, well... another culture, instead of jsut generic mooks that CAME FROM SPEHZ! but as far as i understood the post, he wanted to get rid of that. dissection? instead of actually telling me what we learned, just give me a boost to damage agains tthat alien. see where i'm aiming at?

That is exactly what he wanted, look:

Minimal story and exposition. Everything that needs to be told can come from Researching alien items and lifeforms to study and act upon at my leisure. I don’t need a big cutscene explaining what and where Cydonia is, I just want a brief message saying that flying there is now possible.

You must've misunderstood him.

Terrible. And I don't even mean the drawing and animation quality. It's like someone looked at the intro to X-Com and thought "How do I pansify this and put in a bunch of anime cliches?".

What the fuck am I reading? They're all literally the exact same look as the original Xcom.
They are from the original Xcom (the inventory screen). They were brought in as a comparison of the original designs with the stuff in the concept art.

And guys, I wouldn't really blame anyone for doubting a developer's abilities based on their previous track record. A previous track record is the most reliable way of determining if the given developer will make a product you like (until there's some more reliable evidence, like gameplay footage).

Kind of like with those Tiltedmill people. They made Simcity Societies (which was like on par with a Facebook game) and then went on to make Hinterlands, talking about it like it'd be some kinda complex Dwarf Fortress like game. But it wasn't. Not even close. It was an overly simplistic strategy game with an extremely dull action RPG on top. If you looked at Simcity Societies, you could tell this was coming. For some reason, I kept faith in them and even bought the damn thing, thinking they might've turned around from making extremely casual games. And it was about as boring as Simcity Societies (not to mention it ran horrible despite not looking like anything special).

I'm inferring some are up in arms because of the latest civilization games?

IV and V seemed pretty decent, so why all this throwing feces around like mad monkeys on what appears to be cover art, not even a game screen?

I find their track record quite trustworthy.
  • Sid Meier's Gettysburg! (1997)
  • Sid Meier's Antietam! (1998)
  • Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999)
  • Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire (1999)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization III (2001)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization III: Play the World (2002)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization III: Conquests (2003)
  • Sid Meier's SimGolf (2002)
  • Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization IV (2005)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords (2006)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (2007)
  • Sid Meier's Railroads! (2006)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (2008)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization (2008)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization V (2010)
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown (TBR 2012)

We are talking about people, who made Alpha Centauri, Pirates!, Civ III and IV, and you discredit them because CIV V was not to your liking? It was not a bad game, unlike Simcity Societies, I didn't like it, but I admit it was a fine quality game.

yeah, sorry  :-[

and i agree that Firefly's game track is great. hey, Civ 5 wasn't bad. it was different. a bit simpler. it had a smaller interface, and thank god, the combat made sense.

No just 5. People are getting angry because ONE person implied that he sort of losing faith in the company that made civilisation because of Civ5 and thus he is LESS excited about this game.

That person is getting angry because he is actually outright being attacked for that statement and then attacks them or something like that.

As for attacking the "cover art"... why not? We could either close the topic right here or actually discuss what we already know. Besides "Space Marines" is so common that a lot of people arn't doubting that they may very well do that to Xcom.

Actually didn't they already make a tactical aliens game. Hmmm...
