It's been openly stated that the shooter remake wasn't intended to be an XCom game. They slapped the name on another, completely unrelated game trying to cash in on a franchise someone remembered they owned.

I guess it just seems a bit early to me to start calling the game out for what it clearly won't be (the graphics/mechanics/improvements/homages that any particular player remembers and loved/hated). Looking at the pic on RPS and its brighter details, I don't see anything powered about the power armor, but that was a complaint a few pages ago.

Linking the article clearly had a use, as at least a few people have read it already. That said, and ignoring the fact that it's all basically "You should do as I say, because I want it and I said so" vibe, let's see what MUST HAVES there are:

1-3 are a given. Yeah, modern games will support modern hardware, interface aesthetics have changed enough that you wouldn't get any younger gamers (and that will be part of the target market share) with the old one.  This sounds like "demanding" the game run on windows. I don't even know what #4 means.

6. Give us the original aliens, but more modern and not too original. 8. Give us something that never existed and looked like a B-movie poster. 24. Give us new stuff, not old stuff with modern tech. Well, which is it?

The rest of it seems to ask for pointless eye-candy (UFO BATTLE DAMAGE!!, first-person base walk through? Fly-over of Mars, but slowly, and not in a cinematic, but with a cinematic feel).

I guess I don't understand what the point of it was, other than to sound like nostalgic, non-nostalgic fan-wankery.

TL;DR: I disagree with needing pointless non-gameplay items like flashy fly-bys, a base full of walk-in closets, old new aliens or new old aliens. The rest seems to be a rehash of what the original already was. That I can't object to. Couldn't care less about MP.

It's been openly stated that the shooter remake wasn't intended to be an XCom game. They slapped the name on another, completely unrelated game trying to cash in on a franchise someone remembered they owned.

Mush-mouth straight from the devs. Unless I'm horribly mis-reading that, it looks a whole lot like they had a bioshock game that wasn't bioshock, then someone slapped the name on it to try and drum up support. There's no mention anywhere of them using "source material" as "source" so much as "a copyright cash-in"

It's a wish list, he says so. In the title. You want him to preface every sentence with "in my personal opinion"?
I don't even know what #4 means.
More of the same (but with better graphics).
The rest of it seems to ask for pointless eye-candy (UFO BATTLE DAMAGE!!, first-person base walk through? Fly-over of Mars, but slowly, and not in a cinematic, but with a cinematic feel).
I like those. Though they don't actually add to the game-play in the end. Also, he doesn't mean mars in 14, he means earth. He wants to see earth being destroyed over time by the secret war. I disagree with that one, based on the fact that it's a secret war- there isn't that much that gets destroyed in the scope of a planet. Of course that's in the original, this could be different.

Couldn't care less about MP.
Again, I like that one, and was truly saddened when TTS was closed down.

Also I find #20 to be important, but that has been said before. #21 is heresy. I'd like to play that, but it's so not X-Com it's not even funny.

How is being able to view a replay of a battle heresy? I can see it being unnecessary, but I don't see why it'd be inherently against the spirit of x-com.

Who cares if it's not X-Com?  If you'd like to play it why is it heresy?  This is going to turn into another Fallout 3 if you guys can't stop clinging to the original X-Com like that.

Replays are not the heresy, but simultaneous turn-based (a-la laser squad nemesis) would be. I love dominions, and to a lesser extent frozen synapse (I also was pretty good at this unknown freeware PBEM game called "Militarizm" (with a Z), which had this mechanic), but X-Com shoudn't have that.
It's like the fallout situation- I like tactics slightly less then I like Jagged Alliance and I like F3 slightly more than I like Morrowind, but neither  of them are fallout. I know it's a cash cow, but I'd really appreciate the new name.

Replays wouldn't be able to work like they do in Frozen Synapse because of the strange time-warping properties turn-based combat allows (I.E. chucking a grenade from teammate to teammate until it reaches the front line.) If anything they would basically play out like the normal game does, except without the pauses between clicking on things.

Yeah, the problem with his wish isn't that it's heretical, but because it's impossible.  You can't convert standard turn-based to simultaneous turn-based without serious shenanigans a computer couldn't just automatically perform.

This is what I would have said, if I could use words good.

There's nothing wrong with appreciating the original, but calling out expectations and preemptively judging things because you must have X or don't like Y only builds hatred or overhype that the game can't live up to. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

I didn't see much judging, just hoping for what might possibly be in the game - the same thing we're discussing on here. RPS does that sort of thing. If you don't like it you probably shouldn't read their website.

If this was the Civ 4 era, I'd be very excited Firaxis was on board. But no, they made Civ 5. After that latest iteration, if you can call it that, I don't think their priorities are in line with what made the first X-COM one of the best.
