In other words they min maxed themselves which means they never have both at once where as humans are average all around so have the potential to throw off those fun results of bellcurve graphs.

Ok long story short. Etherals wanted beefier sectoids in their army.

Also i think it would be a rather fun twist if floaters and mutons were actually captured, brainwashed and genetically altered humans since they appear much later in the game.
Altho i think the doctor would comment on that...

"How horrifying!  I vill get straight to work copying zeir techniques for our purposes."
Later, Dr Shen:
"I wonder if these reliable brainwashing procedures will someday be used for evil...  Welp, needs must."

Kinda justified in that humanity is facing an existential threat.  I was really expecting consequences for over-using Meld (even just post-game exposition).  It's nice that they do speculate about how the alien technology might change humanity, though.

is it just me or are the DLC voice actors not really good? Shen, Valen, and the other guy are decent to good, but the guy from Slingshot and the french woman from EW... not so much.

I'm only really bothered by the EW woman, and it's more of the accent that's bothering me, not bad voice acting.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

yes, she's supposed to have that accent, so that make it okay.

In other news I just finished my first X-COM campaign. I'd like to especially thanks Owlbread (A scottish, fully gene-modded, psionic assault) for saving the group with her mind shield against those two sectopods, and Haspen, who was turned into a mechanical monstruosity, for saving Earth.

Somewhat unrelated note; owners of XCOM on Steam now have access to the alpha of Evolve, in case you felt the need for some brutal action and happened to have another 16 gigs of hard disk space just lying around.

Finally got around to trying out Long War. Gotta say, it's impressive what they've done with it! I'm only into the third month now, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

This fucking game. I have it beaten, 100% chance to kill ethereal, game won, fucking amazing. Except every time the winning cutscene plays, it freezes. I have played -so long- for this chance, but no. Fuck that. Freezes. >:C

No idea if this'll work for you, but when my game kept crashing during the final video I ended up temporarily removing the movies folder to force the game to skip that cutscene (or you could try and figure out which specific clip is that one, but it'd just be easier to remove the entire folder).

Yeah, there is something so awesome about punching a chrysalid in the face and sending it tumbling backward.

My favorite mech punch has to go to taking out mechtoids with it. When my nearly dead mech did it the first time and saved the about to be annihilated squad it was great.

The bully in me most loves mec-punching Sectoids and Sectoid commanders. Ideally through walls. As for chrysalids, I prefer the flamethrower. YOU WILL KNOW FEAR, INSECT
