I have been killing then with it yeah. On a slightly related note, punching the uber etherial in the face is rather satisfying

I'm more of the... shoot the uber ethereal with three rockets to the face... sort of a person.

Though I imagine a rocket-jump powered punchy MEC could also run to it and kill it in one turn too. Must be super fucking scary. HOLY SHIT A GIANT ROBOT ARGASHGJDUYSDHGFG *PUNCH*.

It has 30 health, you'd need someone to shoot it first. But it wouldn't matter, as long as the MEC has high will to avoid MC, it could even survive 2 direct Riftings if need be.

My latest victory run had it collectively perforated by all of my team (a MEC colonel, a Sniper colonel, others with Bullet Storm... many got two shots off), and finished off with a Run&Gun+Rapid Fire by my Assault Volunteer's Alloy Cannon. All in the single turn after its introduction. I imagine it would have been quite an eventful few seconds for the Ethereal, were it real-time.

It has 30 health, you'd need someone to shoot it first. But it wouldn't matter, as long as the MEC has high will to avoid MC, it could even survive 2 direct Riftings if need be.

If you upgraded the MECs' close combat capabilities (which anyone who likes facepunching aliens should) then it would take two punches (18 dmg each) to kill an alien with 30 health . You could achieve this with several ways.

1. Rush the alien with two mecs to both punch it once in one turn, with each mec using one action to get to the alien, the other action to punch it.

2. Dash a single mec to get all up in facepunching range for next turn, and then punch it twice in one turn, since punching with a mec on the first action doesn't end the mec's turn thanks to the upgrade. This would require the alien to not run the hell away from a giant angry facepunching cyborg that's standing right next to it. If you don't have the alien trapped in a nice little corner of the room, I guess you could suppress it with everyone else. Dunno if that would stop the alien AI from risking all the reaction shots by running from the mec though.

Making an alien sit right next to a mec for one turn to get maximum punches out of the next turn is tricky. I've never tried it. With melee aliens it just requires a mec to tank some damage. Shooty aliens I've never been able to punch twice. Usually I don't have to, because one punch is enough.

Clearly you should surround it with 4 facepunching MECs to prevent it from running away. No amount of punching is too much!

My first run (on Classic Ironman) ended with a single ghost armor assault rapid firing the boss with a Plasma Rifle, which brought him down to about 5 health.  Then my squadsight sniper finished him off with a plasma sniper headshot.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

I'm surprised none of that bounced back.

I thought of that, but I thought units could move diagonally too. I think I'm too used to roguelike grid movement. I keep finding myself trying to move diagonally in Pokemon.

You can in Gen 6.  One of the ice sliding puzzles actually relies on the player knowing this, which had me completely stumped. ^_^

He was right next to it.  I was semi-spoiled for the fight and guessed the general gist, so I had the assault circle around, ghosting for 2 turns, and then run+gun straight up to it.  The hit chance was probably over 85% on both shots.

I don't think the über-ethereal's bounce-back chance is related to how high your hit percentage is, some shots are just randomly reflected. It hurts when you're shooting alloy canons at point-blank range.

...

WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT.  The final fight is already BS enough.  That's worse than the 10% "fuck you" rocket miss chance.

All that being said none of the bridge enemies ever cause problems for me except when triggered by accident.  After all since you know exactly where they are you can go SWAT on their asses.
