Now we know the real reason the US can bail from the XCOM project. :P

Alright, bought it for the PC at last. You know, this multiplayer thing is pretty damn awesome. I had what looked like a mundane human rookie squad, while the other guy had a bunch of sectoids and a ghost plasma sniper. He was apparently trying the "bunch of cannon fodder and a secret weapon" strategy. Well, so was I. As he was squadsighting my rookies, I used my secret weapon: an Ethereal hidden in a bus.

Also bought it for the PC, as well as pre-ordering Enemy Within.

By the way, this same weekend sale has UFO Defense, Terror From The Deep, Apocalypse, Interceptor, and Enforcer bundled for four dollars.

Ugh, playing II and just got 7 squads activated on me in a single room (one sectopod, one cyberdisk, two heavy floaters, one elite muton, one sectoid commander, and one chyrssalid.) good news is that it wasn't all at once, bad news was that it wasn't all at once so i used all my rockets at the start of the fight >.>.

New update on Enemy Within: the revelation of EXALT. Basically, the Cult of Sirius has formed a few centuries in advance, and you'll have to either cope with or outright eliminate them over the course of the campaign.

Main points:
  • Exalt cells crop up on the world map ever so often. Each cell attempts to hack XCom, potentially stealing money or stalling research process, and spreading propaganda that raises panic in the region.
  • Cells can be revealed by spending recon points. Revealing a cell stops its stealing/stalling activities for a few weeks, until EXALT relocates the cell (and it vanishes again).
  • Once revealed, cells can be outright destroyed through Infiltration missions. One XCom operative is sent into the base, with no armour and no weapons but a pistol. This agent will start the mission separated from the rest of your (fully-equipped) squad, and has to hack several terminals before escaping alive.
  • Destroying a cell nets you a reprieve from EXALT harassment, and also gives you a clue as to the location of the EXALT headquarters. With enough clues, you can 'accuse' a region of harbouring the HQ, with "severe penalties" for accusing the wrong region.
  • Once discovered, you can undertake a Base Invasion mission to exterminate EXALT, permanently.

It's amusing how they look like the Bureau agents.

I love the multiplayer, and it's sad to see how few people share my sentiment.

Of course, I also hate the multiplayer because it's a buggy piece of shit that makes me want to strangle the people who pushed it's unfinished carcass out the door, so I can understand why more people don't love it.

Called it. I'm interested in the description of them as "transhuman terrorists". It makes me wonder if they are actually like the Cult of Sirius, or just want to steal the Ethereal/X-Com technology and have humanity go Full Singularity.

I find it a bit odd that they'd have the resources to make their own MEC troops, ghost armor, etc, though.

Yeah. Hopefully that'll get addressed in-game.

I wouldn't be surprised if the aliens were secretly providing them with equipment to help 'even the battlefield'. It sorta ties in with their motives (which I can never exactly remember/understand).

I thought it was decently addressed in the article. They're stealing from X-Com.
