Max Assault in Titan Armor with "no crits" on can be real tanks. It's wonderful.

I'm having trouble getting back into the game.  I'm at the point where I just shot down the overseer ship, and I just can't bring myself to do another UFO mission.  It's 90% boring moving around with no aliens, and 10% hectic fun.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Anyone else always give their snipers Archangel armour? I love just sending them to maximum altitude and dominating with Overwatch.
Especially on UFO missions, though sometimes trees can make reaction fire a bit spotty.

Isn't the flight time aweful low?

Flight time is infinite.

The number of moves you can do while flying is... 12 or 16, I think, with max stuff researched? And since you can land without using one of those up, run most of the way, and then head back into the air...

I've run out once by being stupid, and I played almost an entire archangel team for a while.

You use 1 unit of Fuel per movement, you can't dash per se in the air, but can still move as far using both actions. You also cannot move if you are mid-air and have 1 unit of fuel remaining.

Un-upgraded, you have 6 units of fuel. Upgraded, you have 12.

I love Arch-angle snipers, capable of eliminating the toughest Aliens from afar. Unfortunately, I haven't really found a use for Flying in UFOs, I question why I even give my sniper Archangel armor in those missions.

Supply ships on the other hand, I have found a use for. Mainly due to the fact the area where the most Aliens are is VERY open. Scouts  are also useful due to the small size of the UFO.

Also, toggling flight worked for me only once, so I've always had to use a unit of fuel to land.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

The dodge bonus is decent.

Better off with the stealth armor if you're not going to fly anyway, if you have one of those suits handy.

Try out this mod I'm using, you'll spend the majority of time engaged in combat. :)

Time for another playthrough for me, if I can get past the randomy early game. First attempt I missed two flanking 65% shots, then proceeded to get two 6 dmg crits to the face on the first two alien shots fired from range vs partial cover, ugh...
Just got to bite the bullet til the troops level up and get higher hit chances, wich will take longer since I modified exp requirements hmmm.
Anyway wish me luck I'll need it since I have none of the cursed stuff myself. Ones I've got carapace I should be good...should be.

Alright next attempt...I've got a scot named Angus MacLeod. I'm not sure why but I like this guy, hope he doesn't die. At least I made it past mission one.

Yeah but Ghost armor is the unbridled master of armor. To the extent where even I wonder if Psyarmor or Ghost armor wins out.

Has anyone else taken a SHIV into the alien base, only to have it turn into a freaky faceless, armless man with a Gatling gun strapped to it's arm that CAN suppress, and does use ammo, but doesn't do any damage? Or miss?   I almost lost two of my best men on that mission thanks to not having that extra firepower.  And I lost my best men the mission after it when I thought that the problem was only on that mission an took the SHIV out again.

I also attacked a UFO with four of my best troops, two of those colonels, along with two rookies to be used to rush the aliens and try to stun them.  Almost immediately ran into heavy resistance, colonel got hit by grenade, went down, all of my "Elite" troops panicked, and then got slaughtered.  I decided to see how far I could get with my two living rookies, and they proceeded to slaughter the entire ship.  Without so much as a scratch.  And they captured four aliens.

I've never seen that before O_o

Then again, I don't use SHIVs very much...

Honestly I find they are only good in escort missions where their lack of cover isn't a detriment.

I was using them so that I could minimize casualties on my side.  But then I realized that I could do the same thing with a rookie, which cost a fraction of the money.

Honestly Shivs were, like other things, likely had a bit of content cut.

It is especially obvious when you see a few hold overs. For example did you know that Cyberdisks actually have weapons?
