Xenonauts is interesting and I have played each and every alpha since the beginning, but it's honestly like playing XCOM if it was made in 1998. Graphically it's sub-par for even an indie. A significant number of features still aren't working properly and AI is very troubling. I am a supporter of theirs for what they are trying to accomplish, but I just don't feel like it panned out. That is just my humble opinion though.

I am curious what price you are hoping to get the game for?

Free or XMAS sale

Good luck! You might get it for 25% off at XMAS sale(if it is offered) or you could just buy it from IntKeys for $35(instead of $50) and play it on the European launch day. You could also keep waiting to play it for free or skip it altogether even.

I really, really enjoy tactical multiplayer, and there's precious few of those sorts of games to go around lately.
I'm with you there.

The MP in this looks pretty good to say the least.

I am really sure that one of the forums main rules explicitly is against what you are suggesting above.  Or maybe it was just linking to those things?  No pretty sure it's against suggesting them in such  a way as well.

My X-COM Steam key will be out in half a day. Plus I bought it for $37.50. :D

Whoever said something about being able to pre-load is either a dirty rotten liar, or wasn't referring to the Steam version :(

I believe the difference between random and procedural, as we understand them currently, is that procedural generation is a method that generates content using random numbers, but not in a random fashion. Random generation, in the literal sense, would be dropping walls, floors, windows, bushes, trees, enemies, etc, at random, e.g. with equal probability, on each tile.
It can still be random in a larger sense though.  I'm pretty sure farm maps are just divided into squares, and each square will randomly be one of a house, or a barn, or a field, or a garden or whatever, and one of them will have the UFO while another will have the landing craft.

I think a few definitions might solve this argument.

Procedural Generation

Quote
Refers to content generated algorithmically rather than manually. Often, this means creating content on the fly rather than prior to distribution.

Implying that procedural generation and random generation are different, or worse, mutually exclusive, is flatly wrong. The two are, in the context of level generation, usually synonymous - levels will be generated using a procedural engine and a seed that will be fed to a random number generator used by the procedure.

If you still aren't convinced, look at the roots. "Procedural generation" is derived from "procedure" - Wikipedia's definition redirects to Algorithm, which states:
Quote
An algorithm is a step-by-step procedure for calculations.

Yes, that means that "placing walls/floors randomly, with equal probability", is still procedural generation. It's using a very simple procedure, I'll grant, but it's still technically a procedure.

I am a sad, sad Sectoid.
