Space men
« on: January 04, 2012, 09:00:01 pm »

The world of dwarf fortress is vast. so vast, that perhaps other civilizations out there might be hidden amongst the hills and the plains.

The idea is fairly simple. Have a new type of site. A landing site. A place where spacemen have landed. They might have different spheres as to what they wish to accomplish. Perhaps they are curious and want to observe every possible material/plant/being. perhaps their goal is to arrive and collect some XXX and bring it with them. Maybe they want to set up some sort of shrine or builing there and just leave.

The idea is fairly basic, gen a site with a group of a certain randomly genned creature. maybe place a spaceship or something in the middle. and place a bunch of buildings with glass. Populate the area with buildings/workshops that are labeled as "strange machinery" and presto.

Sites like this might pop up and disappear(Since they leave) leaving something behind perhaps. The space people might also travel to nearby cities for some info maybe... maybe...

I personally oppose this because it doesn't fit into the fantasy setting and would ruin the immersion and atmosphere of the game.

I agree with above. Unless you trying to turn this into WoW.

Well see, I for some reason liked the idea of them being from space. But it also applies to...well....whatever else can come from where ever else. Though yeah. Somehow I like space

Maybe they could be more "Mythical" because any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, we humans for example if we meet a pre-industrial era alien civilization we would pose as magical god-like beings.

yes. true. maybe like that. Just the idea that you have sites that pop up and disappear plus (maybe in the future?) the slight chance of.... *WOOT* sneaking on the space ship and leaving the world... or maybe not.

What about mysterious underground civs putting outposts on the surface? Like a drow raiding party (To use a somewhat stereotypical example) or something like that.

Did you mean like, X as a variable, or X as porn?

That's the point, it wouldn't be as fun to crush their souls if they didn't have souls to begin with.

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

The idea has merit, but it would be better as a mod rather than the actual game, as is it doesn't really fit into the atmosphere of the game

Of course it fits in, Armok could be a alien! They are Space men to us but they can be mythcal spirits or something like that in the game.

You mean like Fair Folk?

Gah. Modern pop-culture fairies with their friendly attitudes and such nonsense. I prefer fairies of the 'steal-your-children-and-ruin-your-crops' variety.

Mabe we should have dwarf scientists that can studdy unkown hidden fun stuff from outer space. If the scientists fail to study the unknown material or alien, it might start to take effect on dwarfs either good, bad or useless. I want to see a dwarf scientist experiment if unknown is eatable or somthing, think about all the !!FUN!! ;D
