Same problem as above. Alligators work quicker then Dwarves. When your Dwarves feel like working at all that is :P

Then my other solution, dragging hordes of elves to be fishers while my dwarves mine will probably work slightly better.

It depends from which viewpoint you look at it from.

SOme see it as cheating.

I see it as helping the dwarven cause and making sure there's less elves in the world.

Assign wrestlers and masons.  One for the alligators, the other for constructing tombs for the ones for the alligators.

Or..just dont embark in areas full of alligators. Alternatively, dig down, start making your fort and look for underground sources of fish.

You can't escape alligators.  Or badgers, since they're about the same thing, one just swims a little better.  Wildlife is going to facerape you no matter where you settle.  The only question is, how quickly can you return the favor?

If you're going to cheat, then edit raws and make them aquatic.  Or make them explode.  Nothing matters when you're cheating, that's not a valid option and it's not even worth posting.  Dwarf up and survive without godmode, come back when your beard is a bit less like an elf's silken shiny chin.

I was simply posting options usable by all. There are some who wouldnt cpnsider it cheating, so you must take in account their opinions.

embark with ambushers. they start with crossbows ,bolts and armour put them in a squad and give them gators hell.

It's funny 'Gators have never given me trouble, except that one that killed my marksdwarf but everyone was being slaughtered by dual goblin ambushes so it didn't really matter. :(

Boy that taught me a lot about the military, like how marksdwarfs should be assigned ammo.

Meh. Well. At least you can skin the dead corspes of the gators for armor to defend yourself while you kill more gators.

I got to agree with this.
Alligators aren't that bad. Just reclaim with all miners, 7 picks, and sacrifice 5 of your dorfs to keeping the 'gators at bay while the rest dig a hole to hide in. Wall the hole shut and wait for migrants or alternately dig a 2 tile wide trench and deramp one side. that should keep them at bay until you get enough of a military to kill them all.
