Someone mentioned a clean install, but what about restore points?

I mentioned system restore earlier and was roundly ignored.  Maybe they'll listen to the two of us?

Realistically, unless you had the forethought to schedule restore points, there aren't enough to be meaningful and they aren't saved long enough.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Is this a "I backtraced it" joke because it's not as easy as your making it out to be.

sorry i tend to come off as condescending or insulting quite often, not sure why.

actually i hate doing anything with networking, at all. its just hours of staring at shit.
sorta why i prefer coding shit and let other people deal with anything at all related to networking.

the main thing is that all it takes for someone to get into your computer is some sort of already present opening,
unfortunately there are quite a few of these; any server-based games, any P2P sharing apps(you would be amazed just how much stuff is P2P), and well, pretty much the internet itself.

the issue with firewalls is the fact that anyone with the know-how and the will to breach them is also capable of downloading it. so theres no concrete defense against hackers other than removing yourself from the internet.

pretty much as long as humans exist in this universe there will always be assholes, nothing to really do about it... so just hope they die a horrible, slow, painful death and move on with your life.

Well said.  Just to clarify one thing, though.  Firewalls are an essentially impenetrable barrier to anything entering your computer through a network.  However, there are things we want to come through.  Like the internet, games, P2P, etc.  What these do is punch holes in your impenetrable barrier.  Sure, they can't get through the barrier, but they can waltz right in through the holes.  The trick is finding out which ports you put them on.  Or exploiting a program or other thing that does know...which appears to be the case here...

hmm, idea for pissing off hackers, randomly open and close every port on your computer. probably a waste of time...

yeah the whole let stuff through versus stay protected is a bitch honestly, since you cant use anything blocked, but anything unblocked can be used to access your computer.

Actually that's not a bad idea. Look for programs that you started using around that time and start blocking the ports associated with it. When you don't notice them anymore you've found your port, and the program that let them in. They shouldn't notice random ports closing until you close their port.

It appears as if Whalesdev and Bay12 have a nasty case of hackers. Possibly Youtube, too. Really, there's nothing I can do. Hey, a hacker whom I thought was from Whalesdev just attempted to hack me again. Only with B12 and Youtube up. Yep, Youtube hackers.

Question, AoD, what sort of sites do you go on besides Whalesdev and B12?

Just Yahoo Answers. Rarely, due to brain crushing stupidity that seems to dwell there.

fun times, fun times.

now i cant see too many hackers on B12, considering our overall community, youtube seems like a somewhat unlikely source unless you post rude comments alot, or do something else to get noticed.
yahoo answers... dont really know there..

overall i would look at youtube first i think, try to limit your internet presence on sites that lots of scumbags visit. many of the assholes just skim names and pick one at random.

All hacking messages from B12 have stopped, they were really my virus scanner blocking Youtube ads that contained viruses. I still get a hack warning every now and then from Whalesdev, however.

I mean. I question here. This information upon what the issue is is coming from your clearly infected machine.

Malwarebytes didn't show anything. I disabled it, installed AVG and ran it. Still didn't detect anything. I uninstalled Malwarebytes and AVG and got Nod32. I am scanning right now. Turns out I have a nasty amount of adware.

[EDIT] Some of them are not actually viruses. Like DFhack.

[EDIT] It appears as if only 2 of them are actually adware.

Honestly, the one time I had an infected computer (the Blaster worm back in 2003) even though it opened holes in the firewall, we didn't get anything more.
