I think we will first have to figure out if this stuff even forms 1/7 units of blood, or if it will behave like blood does these days. Luckily it is easy to experiment.

Hopefully no a bug will cause it to rain FB poisonous blood.

My first thought.  Seems that there were lots of questions on how blood would interact with water if it was treated as a true liquid.  I suspect it'll just behave like it does now and just leave contaminants randomly about as it rains.

I suspect it won't even leave contaminants, but act as rain currently does.  It'll flicker over the screen, and will apply itself to cover creatures, but won't actually 'stick' on the ground.

If it does leave contaminants, I can see FPS divebombing HARD as you suddenly get a thousand new items generated across the map as blood is created on every tile.  I can also see a LOT of people giving up on haunted biomes, unless cleaning labor is also fixed, because I know that I wouldn't want to play on a fort where everything is permanently shaded in ick and none of my carefully-selected stone colors are visible.  There is something to say for dripping walls of blood, don't get me wrong that's plenty of fun, but I like to actually see my fort the way I built it.

A good point.  Here's to hoping that cleaning does get fixed, but you're probably right in that it likely won't leave contaminants behind due to FPS and other issues.

I bet something like that came up during development though. :D

I forecast eventual rains of FB blood with that blisters/boils/melts dwarf skin clean off the bone

I think that could be quite interesting, and your weapons would be coated with the blood...

If blood becomes a true liquid, I'm setting up high pressure blood cannons.

If it does...

I will make my dwarves drink the blood of elves. The greatest dwarven palace of all time will be made in the frozen blood of my enemies. There will be rivers of blood in my throne room. MY very wells will be full of blood. Armok will be pleased.

If blood becomes a true liquid, I'm setting up high pressure blood cannons.

If it does, I'll try to fill Hell with blood.  If the current savegames are compatible with whatever future version has blood as a liquid, that is.

So we essentially have an infinite food supply. Blood congeals in buckets from the 'water source' and you pull out black pudding with added lye. Delicious!

Unlikely, from my understanding.  I've heard somewhere that Toady has no plans to support cross version save compatibility, and I don't blame him there.

That may have only been major versions though, minor versions for mostly bug fixes will probably remain compatible.  Not that I expect blood to become a true liquid in a minor version update...

I seriously doubt even bug fixes would remain compatible.  And that's alright.  DF is enough hassle to develop already, I couldn't imagine the headache of making saves work.  Especially when so many players do short forts and you get very few that are longer than, say, 10 years.

I have one question:

What were the clouds doing to get that much rodent man blood?

What your dwarves should have been doing all along.
