I've been trying for Planet Siberia. Been going well. I've only had about 5K rejects thus far, and it's making new ones pretty quickly....

So, what's the average temperature for Dwarven Venus? And how come their blood boils, pressurises and explodes out their armpits....but their beards don't burn?

Beards are made of super-tough symbiotes.

Explaining why these dwarves survived to embark in the first place is like....

Pissing in the solar wind.

Just tried an embark on Sol...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He is just kicking my Dwarves while they're down while they're melting and burning alive.

A solar moose. Yep. Sol is one tough cookie to crack, no wonder it hasn't been weaponized by Dorfs yet - the embark parties all die :d

A for effort? :D

Yeah, even brook tiles dry up. Brooks. They aren't even water, they're pseudo water. The rivers underneath the brooks vaporize. It's a whole lot of !FUN! condensed in one world :P

And the best part is, it is the most enjoyment I've gotten out of Dwarf Fortress in a while. :D

EDIT: Again, to avoid double posts and since I've been posting a lot.

Has anyone managed to get more than one dwarf underground? I've only been able to get my miner down under but he dies when getting to the foods...

EDIT EDIT:
MY DEAR LORD
HAVE I
HAVE I DONE IT?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That there is a male and a female dwarf, both underground... And not melting! Everyone else died though. Oh well.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: And then the guy ran outside and got his face melted off. Savescum it is!

my Siberia one, once I started randomly turning off rejection criteria, looks...fun. I set the minimum temperature as -500 or so (max was a balmy 5), but since some of the goblins and humans are alive...(and possibly some dwarves), I assume it's a little too warm.

Aiee! My dwarves are running around with their heads melted and getting eaten alive by giant rats. My wagon has spontaneously combusted and everything has started to go in a general 'hellish' direction.'  I think my only bet will be to embark on a haunted lair and try and get everyone inside before the sun gets to them. forget about saving any supplies.

totally stolen from elsewhere;

"Seven Days: the story of Earthmurdered"

As if blessed by Armok himself, the fortress name is actually completely randomly generated, and entirely apt. If it has its way, the earth will murder you on this map. It is not for the faint of heart.

Some points to help you in your challenge (should you choose to accept it):

    It's a 0.31.25 save game.
This map will run at 1-5fps for the first month or so... it gives you LOTS of time to reflect on just how badly things are going.
You playing a group of Humans, not Dwarves.
I haven't changed the RAWs, except to add [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] to the Humans in the entities.
If you do nothing, you will lose on the 7th or 8th of Granite (that's a week from starting to play)
It is possible to survive: I've managed to make it over a month now, though things are MASSIVELY precarious, even now.
You are equipped with fairly minimal skills, two trained miners, two trained wood cutters and some very basic farming skills (should you survive long enough to need them)
Some basic equipment is included, and "lots" of food (80 seeds, 20m/20p/20f and 80 drinks)
Some basic armor and weapons are also included, as well as two picks and two axes.

What's happened so far... (sort of spoilers, or perhaps pre-planning)

This 4x4 map starts you perched upon the cliffs between the merging of two ancient rivers. Long since frozen over, this arctic tundra is a forbidding and hostile environment on it's own, but these ardent adventurers from "The East Kingdoms" knew what to expect... or did they? As they approach this seemingly quiet location after their exhausting journey, there is a rumble from deep within the earth. Suddenly, there is a roar from deep down, as if something evil has been released and out comes a surge of magma nearly 90 stories tall. There's only one thing to do: run. But where?

The choice is up to you: good luck!

better, but outta time
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

ok, but could have got a few more trees and should cache some magma
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

here we go, water, magma, supplies, cut trees, livestock and dwarves all accounted for

The caverns are filling with magma from below as well, I had some interest in trying to thaw one of the river inlets at the map edge and finding a way to pump water onto the 90 some z-level tall lava flow coming from the west perhaps sealing it off.

or not, the 36 wide, 74 tall portal to infinite lava sits on top of SMR, hmmm, might be able to encase the SMR peak in obsidian and obsidianize floors off of the shell 1 z-level above the top of the SMR to support the lava seal wall...

I got one at -500 as well, though I'm going to get the -1000 one done first before I start testing. On Sol lotsa civs weren't spontaneously combusting, so I assume they're safe inside their bunkers ;P

Okay, I cracked, or at least chipped, Sol. Don't look if you want to figure it out for yourself!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If you remove their clothing they burn to death very quickly. Forbid their cap, and watch their head/upper body. It melts, then burns, then vaporizes.

Oh wow...I think all my civilizations copper picks melted, since I can no longer embark with them...This is so awesome.

*Trade with all civs impossible*

what you gonna do when you're on the sun ~o.o~

Also Earthmurdered seems a bit... Interesting don't-cha think? I'll see what I can do >:D
