What's this? A challenge thread and a world archive all in one? What's the catch?
...Do you smell smoke?THE BOILING COOKBOOK CHALLENGETeh inter-dependant records and messes of worlds in flames.
I am searching for the most hostile Dorfy worlds to have ever existed. And I'm going to put them here, for all to attempt to defeat
The challenge? Post yourself an image of you winning the map. The forum shall decide. Or post an even more hostile map. Or both.
Challenge Archive:It's very cold. Organic materials rapidly deteriorate. Nothing can live more than eleven days above ground. There is no magma or water at all, no above-ground plants, and no above-ground animals beyond what you take with you.
Rules:
- Multiple reclaims allowed.
- You can embark anywhere on the map.
Note: This world includes a small amount of modding.
LW's Note: You can set up a booze freezing industry and create alcopops lol :D
Difficulty: 3
It's very hot. Nothing can last more than a day above ground, and clothes rapidly deteriorate. Unprotected fat burns away. Trees don't randomly explode in flames though. There are 1000 types of Titans, Demons and Night Creatures as well.
Rules:
- Multiple reclaims allowed.
- You can embark anywhere on the map.
Difficulty: 5
Derp derp everyone is on fire. There are 1000 types of Titans, Demons and Night Creatures as well. Plus, minerals are pretty much non existent in the world.
RULES:
- Multiple reclaims are allowed.
- You can embark anywhere. The place with the lowest temperature I found was somewhere where the booze and water boiled on embark. The hottest part was actually hotter than magma and incinerated everything within a few ticks.
- Survival is possible. I'll give you a clue: Mass dog farming and aquifer reserves.
- Limit your exposure to the sun to a few ticks at most. Your first embark will no doubt vaporize. Forbid the corpses, those will vaporize too, and you don't want to waste Dorfs going after those. Also, Yaks appear to be resistant to burning. If you made them pets, you could feed them and have a sustainable yak hair/baby yak meat industry.
Also, forget rivers. Those vaporize on embark too.
- Admiring the apocalypse is optional. Rivers of magma and boiling rain are a common feature :P
Difficulty: 9
Archive submission rules1. Submissions should be made with a title (optional humour)
2. Link to the world save
3. And a description outlining why it is so !FUN!
4. Mods allowed, if they make things stupendously difficult. For example, making Dwarf bones out of green glass...
- Pics optional, though they help.
- World save without forts would be nice. Unless it is a fort that is particularly !FUN! (use traps ;p)
- If only a part of your world is particularly hostile, use notes!
Masters of hostility - Defeating the Boiling Cook book1. No cheats. So no insta-magma forts, no dwarves vomiting plump helmets or adamantine war cats. Same goes with mods and other tools.*
*The only exception is modifications to the init. file in DF. Unless specified otherwise.
2. If you feel like you've won, follow the same instructions for Archive submission, barring 3. There, you put why you think you've won, and as said before, the forum will decide if you have ;P
Remember, it is possible to win even if you die :D
3. Any rules the maker of the !FUN! world might impose. So if they say that you're only allowed to build above ground, you betcha you're only building above ground!
Overall Bouse of survival is named teh master of the boiling cook book.
