What's this? A challenge thread and a world archive all in one? What's the catch?

...Do you smell smoke?

THE BOILING COOKBOOK CHALLENGE
Teh inter-dependant records and messes of worlds in flames.

I am searching for the most hostile Dorfy worlds to have ever existed. And I'm going to put them here, for all to attempt to defeat :P

The challenge? Post yourself an image of you winning the map. The forum shall decide. Or post an even more hostile map. Or both.

Challenge Archive:

Spoiler: Pluto (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Venus (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Sol (click to show/hide)

Archive submission rules

1. Submissions should be made with a title (optional humour)
2. Link to the world save
3. And a description outlining why it is so !FUN!
4. Mods allowed, if they make things stupendously difficult. For example, making Dwarf bones out of green glass...

  • Pics optional, though they help.
  • World save without forts would be nice. Unless it is a fort that is particularly !FUN! (use traps ;p)
  • If only a part of your world is particularly hostile, use notes!
Masters of hostility - Defeating the Boiling Cook book

1. No cheats. So no insta-magma forts, no dwarves vomiting plump helmets or adamantine war cats. Same goes with mods and other tools.*
*The only exception is modifications to the init. file in DF. Unless specified otherwise.
2. If you feel like you've won, follow the same instructions for Archive submission, barring 3. There, you put why you think you've won, and as said before, the forum will decide if you have ;P
Remember, it is possible to win even if you die :D
3. Any rules the maker of the !FUN! world might impose. So if they say that you're only allowed to build above ground, you betcha you're only building above ground!

Overall Bouse of survival is named teh master of the boiling cook book.

Not really for the archive, just thought I'd share:
Embark on Venus
No picks/axes/anvils available
Booze boils
Dogs explode
Dwarves spraying (yes it say spraying) blood out of their arm sockets
Faces melting
Bodies melting
Corpses melting
"Your settlement has crumbled to it's end"

Scary thing was... the blood boiled off the ground.

Yeah. It's a little hot above the surface ;P

Although I didn't quite experience the face melting and blood spraying everywhere. Mine just lied down and died... Then the corpses vaporised. One embark attempt I saw one Dwarf trying to grab his friend's corpse... But kept having to turn away because of the heat  :'(
Had to endure a friends corpse rotting recently.

Sol is like Venus, but immensely worse :d
When I loaded the temperature map, I thought it was bugged. It was just a giant white rectangle.

...White shows the hottest part of the map. There's not a single spot on the world in sol where the rain doesn't boil. And for some reason, it rains a lot. And Dwarves caught in the rain when this happens...

This is hilarious. It's like watching you throw your dorfs into a perpetual nuclear explosion

Yup. The hottest point on Sol is twice as hot as the hottest point on Venus... It might even be hot enough to melt bronze :d

And for some reason, all the Dwarves show up wearing nothing but a cap and socks.

So I finally got an embark where I can actually get picks/axes and its warm (read: not !!scorching!!) enough for the dwarves to survive. And it has an aquifer. And alligators... so many alligators. Currently I have 3 dwarves. Fun stuff.

EDIT: Aquifer plug gone wrong... on to the next area I suppose. I imagine future civilizations colonizing this planet will wonder what the 4 big holes with water on the bottom were for.

EDIT: I've found what appears to be... a temperate area. Crazy stuff.

Someone should make a planet Pluto one.

I got fed up with my fortress, so I decided to kill everyone (abandon is for elves) with a cave-in.

OK, cave-ins were always pretty deadly, but with the new falling object damage they are downright brutal.  As far as I can make out from the logs, many people were killed by the flying bodies of other victims.  One baby's corpse ricocheted off three other people, two walls and the floor.

Messing around with world gen parameters. (Took quite a while, also, over 6000 regions rejected D:)

Warm? Wow. Good luck with Sol then, everything in Sol is scorching. And melting :d

*Edit, the warm zones are probably rejected regions that lucked out ;P

Someone should make a planet Pluto one.

Super frozen map? I wonder if it would make a crap ton of glaciers...

I found a nice embark on Venus that's Warm and Calm, I just had to use bronze axes and picks. So far so good, the only thing is, I'm not experienced with dealing with aquifers...

3 questions.
Are we allowed to play with aquifers off?
What would you classify as success- or, what would you classify as beating the challenge?
Can we take pics with a texture pack on or do we have to use ASCII?

I would like to see a savage evil water-bogged swamp world (aquifers of course). Might be interesting.

1. Hmph. I now that I think about it, init mods should be allowed ;P

Though I'd honestly keep aquifers on in Sol, you'll not find water anywhere else. And booze explodes vaporizes simply by being in contact with air.
2. Having a thriving fort, doing something that pretty much stamps your name on the Earth and or some great monument to Dorfiness :P
3. Texture packs are ok

Yeah found a warm spot on venus. Nothing difficult because I play with aquifers around 90% of the time anyway. Onto Sol I guess.

This is so exciting. :D

I'll also see if I can generate a world that is quite interesting.

Just tried an embark on Sol...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He is just kicking my Dwarves while they're down while they're melting and burning alive.
