(KlK is basically like every Toho animation, extremely dumb, full of fanservice but visually unique and may or may not be deeper than its idiotic premises "what if, like,you see, clothes, they are like aliens and they want to eat us but they also give us super power" "Yeah sure let's make an anime out of that idea", also a big source of inspiration)

Still, I was quite sad reading through the Wikipedia article for Kill la Kill. You know the feeling? You come up with something brilliant and then discover it already exists? Happens more often it should.

But that won't stop me, it shall not! I'll draw even bigger scissors, hah!

But I should sew something in the meanwhile, I haven't picked up a needle since I've become a wizzah. I was thinking of braccae, or a whole early medieval attire. Some Celt-Viking kind of thing. Whaddy'all think?

"mod" here refers to the modulo operation. Basically, if you have a mod b, the result is a subtracted by b until a is smaller than b. Equivalently, a mod b is equal to a divided by b, and taking the remainder. For the case of 'a mod 10', that's identical to finding the last digit of a in our normal, base-10 counting system.

What I'm doing is that I'm replacing that "10" to "b", then picking some larger (prime) numbers for b and doing some trickery to ensure that I don't end up calculating gigantic numbers in the process (huge thanks to Maximum Spin for that; I could not have done this without his help). If you're wondering, this is how it goes:
(f(x) = n^x mod b)
If f(x) = c, then
f(x + 1) = nc mod b
Increasing the value of x is equivalent to moving downwards on the table.

So if I picked n = 3 and b = 10:
f(1) = 3 mod 3 = 3
f(2) = 3 * 3 mod 10 = 9 mod 10 = 9
f(3) = 9 * 3 mod 10 = 27 mod 10 = 7
f(4) = 7 * 3 mod 10 = 21 mod 10 = 1
f(5) = 3 * 1 mod 10 = 3 mod 10 = 3

and if we confirm using f(x) = 3^x mod 10:
f(1) = 3¹ mod 10 = 3 mod 10 = 3
f(2) = 3² mod 10 = 9 mod 10 = 9
f(3) = 3³ mod 10 = 27 mod 10 = 7
f(4) = 3⁴ mod 10 = 81 mod 10 = 1
f(5) = 3⁵ mod 10 = 243 mod 10 = 3
So it all checks out.

I've picked prime numbers here for b. I can't explain it rigorously, but I'd like to say this: primes produce perplexing patterns. If you're good with powers of two (2, 4, 8, 16...), you'll have noticed that I'm choosing prime numbers close to powers of 2. This is more convenience than anything else; I can only do b up to 512 with this spreadsheet, so I chose the smallest positive integer that isn't 1 so that I can generate a lot of sizes.

As for the conditional formatting (this is as it appears in my Excel spreadsheet):
1. If value in the cell is equal to b - 1, fill cell with #FFA100. Stop if true.
2. If value in the cell is equal to 0, fill cell with #000000 (black; color not shown for readability). Stop if true.
3. 3-color scale.
• When cell value = 1, fill cell with #0099FF,
• When cell value = 50% of b, fill cell with #FF0000,
• When cell value = b - 1, fill cell with #7BFF00,
then for intermediate values, interpolate between those values to give a gradient.

I have these pseudorandom tables of numbers that I used conditional formatting to color in and I think they're interesting. Credit to my sister for helping me pick a color palette; I can't do color palettes to save my life. For the sake of being able to see these otherwise tiny images, I've scaled up each image by some integer factor in both the horizontal and vertical directions. These factors are given in the spoiler titles. Each image measures b × b pixels once scaled down by the scale factor. Some of the later ones do get really large. I'd suggest right-clicking and selecting "View Image" or equivalent, then zooming in as appropriate.

@methylatedspirit, I love those! I think the 7x7 one is my favorite, it's like a procedurally generated Persian rug.

So I haven't posted here in a while. After a left art school I was pretty depressed and stopped working on art for a long time, but after a lot of reflection I've decided to try my hand at making a comic again. Looking back I found that I often rushed my work and got overexcited in general, so this time around I'm trying to deliberately take my time doing pages and being a little more methodical--and I can't really bottle up my stories anymore anyways. I'm not really sure where it's going yet, but it's called *Iron* and it's a love letter to 40k siege warfare so... maybe one day it'll be good lol.

Don't get too upset about art school. See, I'm a useless man with no talents whatsoever, yet that's alright, because in my mind, everything is a craft. Everything is a craft, and in order to get good at it, you just have to do it over and over.

I started with one set sketch of a frog and putting silly hats on it. Then I turned the frog mouth upside down, and acquired two basic emotions. Then frog comics happened. Man, that was a long time ago... Now my frog comic experience comes to use for a tale of tailoring madness.
