Ooh, the Vault of Secrets! It's filled with ancient scriptures and sketches from times of old...



Three folders. In these, I used to store my knowledge and art. What do we have here... Makeshift cards, papercrafts, board games, comics... I loved to make those... But for now, let's pick the one with the board games, for I am sure more is hidden underneath...



Oh, stories from Egévin! I am working on Egévin that long? Wow... You know, that current frog fantasy stuff. Here we have descriptions of First Kvaksa settlers, Dream War, a poem about Laiaak (I used to write poems?!!), and some vocabulary for Kevekiii Kvakeii... I searched for that sheet of paper for ages! I knew I already had word for "tomato"! This is awesome! And my old frog models (I draw rear legs differently now). Marvelous. But, that's no Frogvale. Let's search deeper!



Oh, another stories! The big one, that's start of the Fairy Tale! Now I remember, I wanted to cover it all in writings... Got just to Froggy meeting Toady and vile goblin meeting. And the smaller one, with the two frogs, that's about establishing the first frog tribes in the Frogvale, that took place yeeeears before events of the main story.

Speaking of which...



Ah, timelines! The MS Paint stories I made for my siblings (Taking inspiration from Oryx Sprite Lab Pixel art) had grown so big, I needed to write things down. So I did, with these timelines. Each is on A5 sheet of paper, with main line in the middle and four extra shorter lines with major events. And images. I thought of it as some sort of episodes and seasons, like in a TV show. The story itself?

It follows main protagonists, Froggy and Toady, who went on travels together. They find bullfrog tribe of Kvákvala (Croakhala), and befriend local bullfrogs. They reside in an old fort, protected by wooden palisade. They are constantly annoyed by gang of goblins residing nearby, led by wroth warchief Kevars and wizard Shi'rak, who only wants to help his brethren finding a suitable home.

Later, another goblin clan comes, led by powerful wizard Jirh. Jirh eventually manages to siege Tribe of Kvákvala and captures the fort. He is on his way to summon a dread magical entity of horrible powers, and it is on our heroes to stop him.



Jirh is finally defeated, and heroes rejoice. As time passes, new characters come in, like five little dragons, and the original goblin band still tries to capture Kvákvala. Shi'rak finds king of slimes, Blobón, and wants to use him for this purpose. There are magical Swamp Stones, that if he can absorb, he can become extremely powerful. Thus, it's once again on our heroes to find and secure the stones before him and thwart his plans.

Also they befriend some hermit wizard, who holds grudge against Shi'rak, and also they travel in jungle where is another tribe of goblins. Those aren't important now... (I intended to use them as antagonist in future "seasons").



And... What? No, I want more!

I didn't write down the rest... But I can remember, there was more! A band of vile dark mages called Spolek Stinnů (Shaddow Society) wants to take over tribe of Kvákvala, and they corrupt Kevars, and Shi'rak saves the day, and Toady is revealed to be destined to be a frog king... And there is a tribe of dart frogs in the jungle, that have problems with jungle goblins... And more! I must get back to this. How was I able to weave story like this? Now I struggle with writing a campfire scene, duh...



And there was some more lore to Frogvale, too! This timeline captures settling of frogs in the Frogvale, the Goblin Invasion, Siege of Mount Kvakvůna...

You know how it looks like when I try to make a timeline nowadays?



Yeah, like that. A mess.



And here, descriptions of various tribes and notable members!



Oh, and a map. Map of Frogvale. With marked territories of the tribes... You see that black tower-like thing near the middle? There is a lil' square nearby. That's the fort. I can see the jungle. The rock wastelands. Everything. Everything is there. And yet, only so little of it had I described...



This makes me feel things. Such creativity... I must return to this. It actually fits to current frog fantasy setting in a way, so bam! Canon expanded, Frogvale approved! Hope you liked it.

Oh damn, that is quite a vault! My own worldbuilding is super patchy by comparison. :V

I feel like I might lost it. This ambition, this effort. I hope not...

That's exactly how I feel a lot of the time. While i know my old stuff was objectively inferior in technique to my newer stuff, my newer work just doesn't have the same kind of energy and spirit that my old stuff does, its hard to explain, like something is missing and i can't replicate my old stuff anymore.

Can relate oh so much, even though i've vastly improved in terms of skill over the last decade. Back then i drew so much different weird shit, now i mostly just draw dragons, dinosaurs and anthros. Not that i dislike drawing these, but i feel like the untamed creativity of the past has kinda given way to technical improvements, and i'm not sure how i feel about this. :I

Inspired by my recent (mis)adventures in Wizardry, I've been trying to come up with a template for drawing my own 2.5d dungeon tiles.







The perspective isn't great:



but I think it's pretty good, considering I only have 10 sprites and I've seen 16 or more suggested in others' projects. The real work will be coding a system that actually assembles all these images, as opposed to mocking them up manually like I've done here.

I'm slowly ironing out the perspective and alignment issues, but it's coming together. I have some different wall sprites that aren't shown in the mockups above, but I'm tired of working on it for now and haven't cut them out from the drawing board onto the sprite sheet.

When you say "3D dungeon crawler" or even just "dungeon crawler" people assume you mean games like Daggerfall that are fully 3D and have continuous movement, as opposed to grid-based dungeons made of right angles. 2.5d was the only descriptive alternate term I could think of.

ah, I would have called your game 3d, regardless of whether it is a grid or not, it clearly has 3 dimensions. I must be an outlier in that respect

It's not so much the perspective as the rendering method. It shows a 3D perspective but is made up of sprites arranged on a flat plane.

Acthually it has only two dimensions, 2.5D games almost never have a variable for height
For perspective, you're looking for a 1 point perspective, so all the lines should be either hotizontal, vertical or converging toward a single point. In your last picture, the lines are diverging for some reason
