Well. To quote Alucard: "It didn't work. It did not work." There's some... I guess really low level drama attached, but as an in-character thing I still like it, even if it wasn't what I had originally planned to do, which would have taken way longer. But damn it, I wasted an hour cobbling together this damned thing to justify a helmet. I think I'm within the right to share it.
I've found myself turning into a bit of a 'tism-wracked douche when it comes to weapons in armor over the past 3 years or so, and I disliked what one person described as "One of those newsboy caps and a samurai helmet had a baby." It wasn't that it was bad visually, but even the most primitive helmets followed at least a basic rounded shape (with few exceptions, and those tended to at least protect your whole head and face.) I also happen to like the full sallet+bevor combo, and I figured the best way to reconcile this to have a different helmet style available locally was via an in character note from my dude to the armorer. Wouldn't have mattered for gameplay obviously, but it was a visual thing and being that I make my money drawing stuff and I read about antiquated weapon and armor systems for fun, visuals and practicality in-universe to anything matter to me a great deal.
And maybe kinda sorta have part of it justified by nicking the protective visor the goblins were depicted as having in the same thread. Who said military tech development never involved a bit of good old fashioned plagiarism?
