Chainmail is always worn over a thick padded gambeson. To not do so is to invite terrible chafing and pinching, and terrible bruises and broken bones if you ever do get hit.

Really? The chafing and pinching is understandable, but broken bones is going a bit far. The people around you must really dislike your sense of humour.

Here's a Dwarf Fortress inspired picture I drew maybe 4 years ago:

I originally intended to make a color version, but for some reason never managed to do it.

This is nothing short of beautiful! Bravo indeed.
I like how the line thickens where shadows should be present, it sure would be a pleasure to color this.

Thanks!

if you feel like coloring it, go ahead, be my guest. I might have a higher resolution scan of the picture on my computer, but am not completely sure if I managed to save it with other stuff after my old computer dropped dead (I do have the original somewhere with my other papers, though).

More pixelart practice - getting into limited palettes (and paletting in general) - Irish Setter in gameboy palette.

please draw more!

I'll try. Been seriously lacking motivation/inspiration to draw for the last year or so (except for some random doodlings).

Anyways, here's a couple more illustrations from circa 2013-2014:

I always wondered, why do comic artist ink some portions of their work pitchblack? Don't that hinder the color work later on? How do you work that out, do you leave that black or do you digitally rework those parts?

Also, have a little WIP

I'll try to answer even though I haven't drawn comics and neither am a professional inker.

With my own art I first try to make it work as a black & white picture. If it works that way, great, won't be a problem if I'm too lazy to color it. The big blacks don't usually hinder the coloring later on - especially with some planning before - and it's quite easy to soften up the black digitally, if necessary. It really depends on the picture and what you're trying to accomplish as the final piece (if I'm unsure of my skills I usually don't ink big black parts as it's so easy to botch the whole piece with it and make the viewers eyes hurt with a cacophonic mish-mash of black & white).

Also, nice work with the colors in your picture!

The second picture I posted a couple posts above actually has this problem in some parts (though it could be way worse).

You're not a pro? I assume you're at least formally taught right ?
...right?

No seriously this is awesome. Looks extremely professional.
I'm asking because I see a lot of pros doing exactly that and I don't really understand the rationale behind that. Tho it makes sense if you do not plan to color it, the pros I'm watching do this aswell, then proceed to color those inks. This is a bit puzzling to me but there must be a reason

On other news, that's finished. I have no idea of what I'll do with that comic at this point, but something in me just wants to work for the sake of it
