I'm not sure I can help, but I can look at what you have if you want.

Just the finished first page, pretty much a preview. When the intro is done (5-10 pages) I'll reopen the dedicated thread

Just one or two small suggestions concerning the writing. It should probably be "Can I ask you something, commander?" "this month's salary" "making the same mistakes."

Great opening, though, definitely. I'll be keeping up with it.

Nice!

Don't worry too much about issues surrounding the writing. If I notice anything in the future, I'll be sure to tell you; others probably will, too. Good work!

Yeah, i'm not too bothered by things like that as long as the meaning comes across fine (which it does!). Looking great so far, i'll be keeping an eye open. c:

... Ward as in Wildbow's current serial?

I should get to reading that at some point.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A little elongated... what do you guys think? College-entrance portfolio worthy?

EDIT: Also still pleasantly surprised that I can draw semi-well... at least from a reference. Honestly, not really sure this is up to snuff, but it's starting point.

The movement is good, but (and it's a thing I absolutely hate to say) the anatomy is wonky. As it stands it looks like the lower body and the upper body are not from the same person and has been glued together. They look good individually, but I have the feeling they don't belong to the same person. Tho I see the drawing is constructed, shadows are okay and give a good 3D feel.

With that all said I would dearly advise you to go back to the drawing block if you're working on a portfolio. The anatomy errors (difference of size between upper and lower body) is not something that will be overlooked at college (at least not where I am). It's a small mistake, easy to correct but as it stands it kills the picture.

You definitely have the method right and you can draw that's for sure, but I would really, really advise you to work on the human body.

Two quick tips that will save you a lot of troubles :

• Always work with a medical anatomy skinless picture in front of you. You can find them easily on the internet, it will train you to draw muscle and get the proportion right
• When your construction is done, do a "transparence test" to see if it's good. Take your paper, face a lightsource, flip the paper and look at it from the transparence. It will make your brain think you're not the artist and will wave away the love eyes every artist look at their own art with, and will allow you to correct your mistakes more easily

Here, I hope it helps, good luck o/

Thanks my dude. I feel the same way after looking at it with fresh eyes this morning. Alas, I must destroy those legs and arms which I thought I killed.

Going forward, would it be better to redraw parts of this picture or just start a whole new on?

Id say keep everything you draw, it helps building a sense of progression and when it is time to compose your portfolio you'd have more drawing to chose from. So, start anew, with a new reference if you can, do 2-3 sketch a day, keep them all but dont grow too attached to them

It's not a bad drawing by any stretch, but you have the skills to do a lot better by the look of it. Also, the arms are okay, the lower body is the problem in my humble opinion.

Ya, luckily I have some time on my hands. I've been lazy as fuck so I'll be trying to get into at LEAST 2-3 drawings the days I don't work for the next couple of weeks. Luckily most of the places I'm looking at have pretty late deadlines.

And ya, I agree with you, the abdomen is the worst of it, but the buttocks is also a little squished.
