Finger smudging is problematic because of skin oils and their tendency to fuck with erasability of stuff, so do it with super clean fingers only.

This also includes the problem of having to get it off, at least from my own experience (The tinymountain I posted a year or so back was more smudged with tiny details scribbled all over, from inspiration in listening to instrumental music)

If you're working with graphite or charcoal you can use a folded up tissue or toilet paper to wrap your finger and keep the oils off the paper. Also, a kneadable eraser is indispensable for detail work and getting the dust off before you work it into the paper grain if you need to make tone corrections.

This challenge made me want to actually learn some colour theory, since good colours apparently let me just do swishy swirly things and have them look pleasing. :V (also blank template if you want to try your hand as well)

From left to right, top to bottom:

1.) The ocean, but magic.

2.) A river.

3.) The future that is Aku.

4.) Blood in the ocean, possibly the magic ocean, possible the blood of Samurai Jack.

5.) Flame Princess, but without a face.

6.) This Sapphire is much cooler than the other sapphires.

Noice! Perspective looks a little off on the backplate*, but noice all the same

*the crease at the bottom looks like it's almost facing us, while the rest is more at a 3/4 angle

Dammit, you're right. I saw that while I was painting, thought I'd corrected it, and never gave it another glance.

I find myself doing often the same thing - the yellow highlight the arm itself looks a bit reflective, which can be good when painting statues, but not humans. This might only be me, but I generally try to avoid very sharp small lines of highlight on skin.

The figure looks great, but I feel that the background does the piece a disservice. It's way too saturated. It leaves nowhere for the eye to rest and draws attention away from the character.

Spent the whole day experimenting with this,  trying out colors etc. but I got nowhere so I just decided to leave it in it's current stage.
