They look plastic, the gloss and the shadows on the edges make them look unatural. You should tone down  the reflections and glossiness of all your materials.

No idea what renderer you are using, but try illuminating the objects with a weak ambient light in addition of the single light you have. Maybe it'll get rid of the weird black edges.

Looking good for a beginner! The shape of the ship is very readable.

Get away from those grayscale colors as early as possible though. You should never be using pure blacks, and usually there is a better choice when it comes to greys but they can be useful, and pure white should only be used for highlights. Also, your internal colors are not different enough, they blend together too much!

Fair enough!

I do think that when you're working in a medium with limited space color is even more important and I would encourage you to try reading more about it when you feel like you're ready. Good colors can really add a lot to a piece.

I made a version of your piece where I only swapped the colors and didn't change anything else, to try and show how your piece would look if you used a more unified palette. May I post it?
