Yep, the dispassionate look in the eyes checks out. It takes quite a bit to squeeze the joy of life out of a dog, but Russia sure has what it takes.

This ended up proportioned more in the anime style than I originally intended, but your point is valid. I know simple angles are easier - that's why I don't use them much. If an artwork doesn't stretch my skills in some way I consider it a less efficient use of my time than it could be.

You have the best mentality, make me want to go outside my own comfort zone too. Mark my words, I'm positive your skills will take a big leap forward very soon. Work a wee bit on the lower body anatomy, define your style a little more to avoid falling in the uncanny valley, and you'll see magic operate

Cathar's criticisms are on point. I'm glad he took the time to draw over it. I try to do this with my friends when I can but I can't always reproduce the pose they're after, especially if they weren't working with a reference.
