Alright, my vaporwave video game idea hasn't quite fizzled out yet, and I've mocked up a screenshot. I need some honest opinions about what it looks like so far:

Adorably quaint and retro, or unnecessary eyesore? Little of both maybe?

In my (admittedly uneducated) opinion, the models themselves are decent, and the fish texture is nice. I would highly recommend changing the texture/color on the buildings and the statue, though, to something a little less harsh.

I JEST, great stuff! Quite subtle expressions for the most part (almost too subtle for me, but it is a pseudo-known fact that i like my expressions delivered with the subtlety of a rocket-powered sledgehammer); perhaps experiment with raising the mouth a bit for the happier ones? Faces tend to scrunch up when smiling, so a happy mouth being at the same distance from the nose as an unhappy one seems a bit off. Also, i envy your ability to draw hair. :v

Ignore everyone's comments about the color, it's perfect.  Make the models a little more jagged though.

It actually did have sights once, but that made it look like a Luger (the Nazi pistol). It's supposed to be a Nintendo Zapper or similar light gun.

Also, I changed the lighting. The floor was way too bright, and it's using a single real-time light as opposed to the mess of baked and mixed lights in the first shot.

I mean, technically the luger was a german pistol, it predated the nazis by a few decades. :V

Going for the nintendo lightgun visual, I'd make it a little more angular and raygun-esque, but then I have no real idea.

I drew a smaller version of the horned girl below, and then Gunin changed the hair:


It's 16-bit, hence the outline is purple rather than black.

So I tried to adjust the larger sprite to match.



Does anyone have any tips on how to get the hair right, at the top? How it looked before was very helmet-y, but it looks odd with the lines. I'm also interested in people's opinions in general.

EDIT: I made the hair a bit messier.

It's certainly something. I'm not sure I'd play it, but it sure is bright, and I've not seen that kind of ascetic before. Maybe it's becasue i've never seen anything to do with vapourwave before.

Nice, though the waterstain(?) at the bottom left flaws it a little, in my opinion.
