I think the clown might be dead seeing how the detective is inspecting him.
Not enough blood on the floor. Also not enough blood on the detecive.
LOL I get it guys, the mockup so far is a little too mild for a game like SS13. Ludicrous gibs will be coming later, they're just lower on my priority list.
I think the humans look pretty good. Except that detective, it looks like his face is being censored. But for the most part there is just enough space to suggest a face, without being so big as to make everything else look under-sized.
What do you mean by "censored"? And yeah, the heads of these sprites went through several iterations before I arrived at the current ones. They're smaller than the existing heads but big enough to accomodate small details like sunglasses.
At this point I assume there's a conspiracy to prevent all SS13 remakes from being finished. I mean, think about it, there's a dozen remakes of it in the work, but none of them ever get any tangible product.
The problem with all of the SS13 remakes is that they're too freakin' ambitious! They want to throw out the 32x32 graphics in favor of huge 64x64 textures and fully-modelled environments. And for an enormous non-commercial game like SS13, that sort of workload simply isn't possible. It quadruples the amount of work, adds another barrier for new content and severely limits who can contribute art.
So overall, my goal for this project is to make marginal improvements. Better art direction, a unified palette and a consistent perspective in roughly the same resolution. I've considered giving these graphics to the SS14 devs (I found their art IRC and it's still active), but I doubt they'd accept them. If you look at
this gameplay footage, you'll see they've committed all of the mistakes I mentioned above. For them to accept my graphics, they'd have to throw out everything they made so far and I doubt their artists would be happy with that.
But then again, I could possibly suggest my graphics as some sort of "alternate tileset" to what they have so far...hmm...
