There's not much to say, you're really quite good at this. :v

Nope. Most of people that still visit the old Picturewars.net are good. Like, I dunno, Hobbesy and Stefman (yeah, he's an living legend).

If i am to turn on Captain Pernickety (golly i love that word) mode, i'd say MORE SHADING CONTRAST, at least on this red-white ship.

Yep. The Valkyrie is old though. Like, dunno, almost a year or something now.

The tank mostly gets away with it because tanks aren't meant to be super shiny, but the shadows could maybe be a tad darker.

Speaking of that, not a single of those sprites has battle damage or weathering (yeah, that's a thing in space too, apparently) which actually bothers me a bit now.

The two battleships are INSANELY detailed; perhaps my only nitpick here would be that the gold doesn't seem shiny, although i guess that would hurt its readability against the white surfaces. Oh well, i tried.

Heh. Well, it was kinda shinier but I've been criticized for that . I'll check if I have the old version or maybe make up a new one, it's not like it's a huge amount of work.
The worst thing is that I never got around to really use them in Pixel Wars (The Picture Wars name is meeeh), there's nobody to play with, and even if there is the match usually dies before first blood is drawn or shortly after. :/
Actually, I may set up a game somewhere around here Scratch that, I'm too lazy.

Banding I agree with, but I'll rather go for accuracy (as in, keeping faithful to source) than removing banding.
But pillow shading? Goddamnit, where? The barrels? I have no idea how to make them look round other way.

Wouldn't say that the barrels are pillow shaded, though i guess it does veer vaguely in that direction. Closer inspection, however, reveals some inconsistencies with the lighting, which i've had the audacity to point out:

Basically, some places imply a camera-angle lighting, while others imply a diagonal lighting from the top right. Gotta say though, i like the details on the little dudes.
Also re: making things look round, that is perhaps the only thing i actually know something about when it comes to spriting. And for some reason, i felt like making an extremely generic cannon for that.



Nevermind that i messed everything else up. I don't feel like i should be lecturing you, so long story short, further away from center = sharper gradient, which in other words means that features should be narrower/closer near the edge. I plastered some cheesy markings on the the tip of above thing to show what i mean.

I am half-inclined to do do this stuff again and at least finish the Leman Russ or do more Imperial Navy ships... In meantime have some Nuns With Guns Valkyrie. That stuff is older tho, I'm not sure it's to scale with Guardsmen anymore. I'll continue to dig into my old pixel-art folders.

Ive seen that sonewhere in picture wars , or its just me that have imagination....
