Just building a character. does this look good/proportionate?
Have you tried using one of these?
That one's a bit one the finer side of the spectrum, but you get the point.

(I'm trying to recommend you an artist's mannequin!)

EDIT: Oh, I just realized I could have morphed those two separate posts into one by utilizing the power of the 'Modify' button

Here, this is gonna freak you out. You've probably never heard of this before, so sit down and prepare yourself. Ok? You ready?
Do a search on Ebay or Amazon for 'artist mannequin'

Oh, well that advice was totally pointless then.
Guess you'll have to look around art supply stores or something.

If you're one of those mainstream cool kids, then you probably have a iPhone. There's a 3d artist's mannequin app available on that if you really want it.

I actually prefer doing all that 'posing process' in my head and then sketch it on paper so it looks something like this:

Then move on to the details.

Or use this:

http://www.posemaniacs.com/

Won't give you the same perception of depth and surface an actual mannequin will, but it might help.

It just hit me, I used to play with GI-Joes a lot as a kid (They're not dolls dammit! ;) ). Maybe if you did as well you could dig out one of them and use it for a ghetto/DIY/hack mannequin. As I recall they were fairly articulate-able.

Yup, pic of me fighting off zombie horde that invaded a few weeks back...
Don't know if a photoshopped bunch of photos counts as something "shopped/made/etc"?

note: image has photoshopped blood

Spoiler: More images (click to show/hide)

I am proud of the following small things: a ship inventory screen and means to rename the ship. Also randomly generated names.

Is that libtcod I spy? If you are using its inbuilt colors you might want to try desaturated green instead of the current one for land, although I am strongly bias towards grayer tones. Anyway what language are you working with? Visual studio means either C++ or C#, so I'm guessing C++?

Still good stuff! Will there be krakens?

MaxWhite: I'm lerping TCODColor::green with black, so yes, default green. I probably will swap the green color for darkerGreen as you suggested. The language is C++, because libtcod for C# sucks very hard. o.O

I'm not sure where this is going right now, even xD I think I'll put in moving the player ship to a clicked position next. I shudder to think of the part where I need to display only a bit of the map at a time or something.

Edit: Any better?

It looks too red overall, is the first thing that I can think of.
