The longer I think about this the worse I feel, so I'm just gonna stop thinking about it.

There are only so many ways to do a fish-like cave-dwelling critter. If I'd stuck closer to the source material, she'd look less like Gollum, but the piece is already slightly creepy and if I'd gone full-bore it would be delving into the realm of horror (canonically, she is so skeletally thin it looks as though she's wearing someone's skull as a mask).

I take a peculiar kind of joy in taking business stock images and using them as references for pulp fantasy stuff. Man gesturing and pointing out a datum on a trendline? Naaaah, gunslinger.

Guns AND magic? Can't disapprove, not possible for me. Seems like a worthy use of business stock images. :v

also here have a dog

So i actually did something slightly different here: I used a round brush for the lines, instead of my usual tilted 2:1 rectangle brush. I did this because i wanted to test out if it was the brush making my things look hella skewed when i mirrored them. Test result: It was. I might keep the round brush. :v

also i personally really like how the style turned out here

Suddenly, it seems like Shook gained at least 3 experience levels in Arts, but it's just a brush change v:

Oh yes, the right brush can make a difference for sure! Observe as i switch to the generic pencil in Paint:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not the biggest of differences, but if you look closely, you can see that the lines are aliased here, which makes for a slightly rougher appearance than the smoothed lines of the previous dog. And then, we can make a comparison to a different brush:

In this case, the lines are a little fuzzier, which approximates fur better. I usually prefer the sleek lines of the smoothed round brush, but i am aware that other opinions may differ.

Always nice to let puns like that out of the system, even if others may suffer. If that is so, then let them suffer and despair. :v

I designed as more or less a matter of curiosity a "Space Fighter" variety of orbital combat vehicle, using technology of the sort which could rapidly be assembled from existing research and infrastructure in the early 1970s.

I chose this time period, of course, because computers weren't good enough to replace a human pilot for combat operations at the time, requiring a human pilot for something like this.

It's designed to be launched as a third stage for the Saturn V moon rocket, with the first two stages pushing the third stage, which uses nuclear thermal engines, most of the way into orbit. The nuclear stage then completes the orbital insertion, performs whatever mission it was launched to complete, and is placed in a high parking orbit, from which the pilot's capsule ejects and returns to Earth using a small chemical rocket engine.

The armaments would be three missiles armed with either nuclear or flak warheads, and two Vulcan 20mm rotary cannons.

On this piece I would agree, and I think it's because of the somewhat dull shading and the wacky colors.

I think it's due to the exaggerated white highlights

Shook, it's because you make your shading too smooth and aliased. Things are jaggy and irregular. Especially hairy things. The smudged shading and airbrushed colours are what do it.
