What am I looking at, here? Some kind of aircraft? It needs shading, if nothing else, and to be properly-lit. One thing you need to realize is that pixel art doesn't let you get away from the normal rules of art - in fact, the difficult fiddly stuff becomes even more important because you need to imply a lot of it without having the resolution to actually put it in.

It's true that you absolutely must practice and keep doing things in order to improve, but that's not all that's necessary. It's also important to change what you do and how. You've got ideas you want to put into art, but you don't have the technical knowledge to deal with the contextual things like lighting, texturing, and scene composition that make for good art, and those are critical to master. So work on them.

One of the major threats in the new Gun Francisco world are the somewhat broken but still working robots and other machines,
They were cool but felt uninspired and I didn't put much thought into them. I decided to take my nerdy IT knowledge and base them on PCs and the 3 most popular OSes


A gun fabricator, AKA the thing that will spit out gradually better (or not) guns for you as you feed it metal. Because screw having control in a crafting system, here you have to deal with what you've got! (Basically it allows me to be more liberal in terms of gun designs and balance since it wouldn't be as easy/possible for players to outright skip the subpar guns and always go for the strongest ones...)

This probably deserves its own thread, but there's still a bunch of stuff I need to actually sort out. Although I do have a draft for the story and other tidbits which I didn't really have this early when I was doing the million previous iterations of GF, so there's a plus I guess. :V

Well, yeah, I did base them off heavily off the TF2 fabricators (and by heavily I mean it was my only real reference pic cause I couldn't find anything else off the top of my head)...Pretty sure I'll get a more original design soon-ish, but for the purpose of that concept art it works well enough. :V

Also I sketched another GF thing and this time it looks like a minimalist comic book cover...not that I plan on making a comic, but oh well.

I tried to make art without lineart for the first time in forever (still had a sketch tho)...
This is mildly disturbing, but pretty okay for a first try, I guess. :v
