WIP stuff for my NaNoWriMo cover this year. The collar area vexes me... but I'm pretty happy with it so far for a couple hours of mouse doodling. Book's working title is Revenant, for some context.

Speaking of Sci-Fi pixel art, I've got some stuff for that one forum where you fighting with pixel art soldiers but sadly never really got to use any of it because forum is in coma.


I would have to dig up the sheets though. I've got some ships tho... I planned to do a lot more of them, also made a list of actual Batlefleet and planned to make at least the biggest ships differ from each other but whatever.

Helpful critique!

With no perspective, it looks really flat. Take the shuttle tower - We should really be able to see more than two corner outcroppings, and the view being perfectly level with the ground on both the shuttle bay and the dirt is off-putting.

I don't get the raised shuttle bay. It's a big shuttle. That's a significant amount of weight to reinforce a structure to hold, when you could just pave some dirt. It's also barely big enough for the shuttle. This suggests it's decently advanced, for VTOL craft, but ... it's a big concrete tower. It doesn't look advanced.

The shuttle itself seems to lack wings, but otherwise be built for atmospheric use.

That shuttle tower is uncomfortably close to the control tower. I wouldn't want to work there!

The shuttle is too big relative to the control tower. It looks strange. Maybe the tower's in the background, but there's no  sense of perspective. I can't tell.

The flat-on view itself isn't very interesting. I suppose it would work for certain forum games, but if you're going for a scene that's impressive in-and-of itself, it would probably be better to use something else.

Overall, I think you'll get better results if you take just a few minutes to roughly sketch all the major objects in before working on details.

I am half-inclined to do do this stuff again and at least finish the Leman Russ or do more Imperial Navy ships... In meantime have some Nuns With Guns Valkyrie. That stuff is older tho, I'm not sure it's to scale with Guardsmen anymore. I'll continue to dig into my old pixel-art folders.

There's not much to say, you're really quite good at this. :v
If i am to turn on Captain Pernickety (golly i love that word) mode, i'd say MORE SHADING CONTRAST, at least on this red-white ship. The tank mostly gets away with it because tanks aren't meant to be super shiny, but the shadows could maybe be a tad darker. The two battleships are INSANELY detailed; perhaps my only nitpick here would be that the gold doesn't seem shiny, although i guess that would hurt its readability against the white surfaces. Oh well, i tried.
