As a matter of fact, I actually like your map a bit more. When you zoom it out like that, you can take some liberties and make the coastline less detailed. But if I could make a suggestion for future maps (seeing as this one is finished) you might want to tone down the saturation a bit and smooth out the edges of the pasted mountains.

I mean, functional maps can be preety too! I'd suggest browsing the cartography gallery of WorldBuildersGuild if you're looking for some inspiration (I admin that group, BTW).

Hmm...this looks like a pretty good start, but how exactly are you drawing all of this? While your map does look somewhat natural, I can't help but feel the coast is a little too uniform. If you're drawing this in Inkscape you can select all of the nodes, half the number of them, then jitter them. I've gotten really good results with my coastlines in the past by doing that.

I'm using Krita and I'm drawing with a tablet. I took my original world map sketch, cropped it, zoomed-in and re-drew the coastline (it much more uniform before and I decided to re-draw half the thing).

Here's a before-after comparison at 33% zoom.

A friend drew the actual figure's outlines. I used apophysis and gimp to make the background and added in the fill and colors. It's for a forum game we're running.
