Well hey, you're off to a good start! If you don't mind, here's (once again) a bit of unsolicted criticism/advice: I know you've labelled it as WIP, but i have to say that it looks a bit weird that the spirally part just like pops in out of nowhere. Might i recommend fading it in gradually like you did with the main beam itself? Also, depending on how the beam is to function (quick flash versus continuous raking beam of death), you may want to make the fade in/out times a bit different from each other. It's possible that i'm just a complete wanker about animations that just reverse halfway through, but i think it could be cool to have one be faster than the other.
And lastly, if you want to be super cheeky and add a lot of coolness, you can shift the entire sprite forward one length in no less than 3 steps* (so you move it 1/3rd the total height in one frame, and wrap the top around to the bottom), which, when looped, will give a neat visual of the spiral flowing forwards. Also, if you vary the brightness of the beam, you can produce a neat pulsing effect, if you want.
Please note that i am in no way trying to one-up you (unless you wish for friendly competition, that is), and even if i did, i probably didn't succeed at it. Hopefully it shows what i mean, though.
* I'm saying three frames as a minimum, because using a mere two frames for an animation tends to make it look like you're just flipping back and forth between two images as opposed to actually animating it. Case in point:
The only fancy thing about this is that it can go both up and down at the same time. :U
