Any tips for a potential drawer?  I can't even begin to say how much I want to be able to draw, but I keep on making more and more unfinished sketches without completing much.
Also I'm a HUUUUUUGE NEERRRRD so I'm trying to draw things in a manga-style, mostly because I like the eyes and it's easier on my brain when shading.
I mainly have trouble with noses, ears and drawing clothes realistically.

OK, listen. I've been drawing for a couple of years now, and I still suck. Let me tell you though, I suck a lot less then a few years ago.

I went from this:

to this:

and most recently this project:

(effectiveness of image somewhat useless becaue it's isn't uploaded at full size D:)

The point is this: Keep drawing. Draw things that are difficult, time consuming. You WILL get better, a lot better. Undertake projects, join contests, etc.

If you want some technique advice, I'd say this: move away form manga, it's an excellent basis, but in the large scope of things somewhat limiting. Learn the different types of shading, lighting direction, etc.

Draw shit you see, or draw shit you imagine. Do both actually. Just... draw.

EDIT: aaaaand ninja'd D:

Yo i got doubleninja'd, y'all shouldn't be complaining. :U

Cthulufaic, breaking news: You are already able to draw. ;)
I can maybe offer you a few tips about noses and ears, but you're on your own for clothing. Noses seen a bit from the side are actually super easy to draw, and can be made with four simple curves. Since i rarely do DEAD ON FRONTAL portraits of people, i use this kind of nose most of the time. But just for good measure, i have also included a frontal nose:

Although from my observations, manga noses tend to mostly just be a little 7 turned upside down, and a flattened V when seen from the front (if they even draw noses). I just like to draw comical bulbous noses. :U
As for ears, one way is to draw them as tall C's with sort of a squiggle/heavily distorted G or 6 inside.

I mostly do the one on the right, but you could easily get away with a loose spiral like the one on the 6-ear if it's a cartoony drawing. I admit that i haven't seen enough manga/anime to notice a trend with the ears there, but hey! :P
but I keep on making more and more unfinished sketches without completing much.
This is not a bad thing. I have made a gagillion crappy and unfinished doodles that probably won't ever go beyond that, even though i could theoretically go all out and go digital paint on them. I don't always feel for it, so therefore i don't always do it.

So basically, practice, enjoy yourself, and don't give up. Taking a break is totally fine, nobody will hate you for that, just don't give up if you really want to learn. I know from experience that progress can be painfully slow, but hang in there, it will happen. If a schlub like me can learn to draw somewhat okay-ish by just taking it easy and doodling for fun (and also reading a few tutorials to rectify major issues that people pointed out rather frequently), then so and you and everyone else. All you need is tiiiiiiime. :U

@DarkDXZ: Ooo, that evil chickenbone guy is pretty rad, in particular do you seem to have a really good grasp of the dreaded FORESHORTENING. Nice job! c:

also speaking of doodles......
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I sketched a portrait of a D&D character of mine, who is hopefully obviously a dorf. His name is GRIMSHIT MOUNTAINBEARD, KEEPER OF HATE, and he's a warlock. And he's fucking angry all the time. He managed to create a potential major antagonist by punching a minion in the balls, only to find out that this particular minion was favoured by the gods themselves, thus giving rise to the mighty GODBALLS (who then absconded out of the cottage that Grimshit had managed to light on fire, making it collapse on top of Godballs to no ill effect). He also labels most people as being clods or bumshits. It has come to the point where we in our little online group refer to higher-ranked members of a mercenary band (called the CRIMSON JERKFACES) as bumshits, with one of them actually being called Bumshit while he was alive. It's pretty amusing. :U

i also made a turbospeed doodle of a boid

As someone who has been hit with all kinds of criticism despite my skills, where judgement is concerned, if people say you suck, it's their opinion, if you think you suck, then you suck; but if you're proud of how much you suck, then that's where art starts to show. Don't care too much about how your work turns out, and draw what you love to draw. Consider your "suck" as an art style and work off of that, or refine it to something crazier (in terms of crazy-detailed to just plain crazy).

Basically, work to your own rhythm. Mine just happens to have a forte in guns and landscapes and ships, with a style aiming more towards descriptive and draft-ish; like how a designer approaches engineering.

Drawing Adolf Hitler as a toaster is a running gag on another forums I visit, and I just had to jump on this bandwagon.

Do note this was made solely for fun, I am by no means saying that national socialism is any good. If this somehow offended you...
I apologize.

I'm offended by how inoffensive that is!

Also todays spitpaint, forest shrine, went slightly over the 30 minute mark and the background could've used some more work:

--------->30 minutes

Dammit Jopax, you're STILL too good at this. :v

also i decided that i wanted to speedpaint a friends D&D character

but then i realized i have NO idea how to speedpaint humans

so it turned into a 2 hour slog

And yet, those hands are a brutal affront to human anatomy. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDS. He also looks like he's made of clay. The only thing i'm entirely happy with is the metal dome on his helmet, and possibly the structure of his face, as goofy as it may be. But hey, considering that i've only ever drawn a single digit number of full human figures, i think he turned out reasonably well. :U

also the jar is full of cheese dip, Groo loves his cheese dip
