So...that's based on the family dog. Her three main functions in life are eating, sleeping, and be intensely startled by the same thing over and over
You forgot barking.

She doesn't really bark, she goes something like "arfarfarf" when she's startled. Like when she sees the neighbour's dog which who she has a one-sided lifetime friendship, but is ten time her size and doesn't recognize her as a dog. It's not really barking.

Oh and she bullies the cat when she's in an excessively good mood

With that said, I kind of want to toy a bit with the mascot design, and maybe do some spritework when I'm satisfied. Then learn to program, and one day maybe do a platformer. On the big shelf of stuff I want to do but probably wont, this idea goes

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Made an effort to show lighting. It kinda worked?
Any critiques greatly appreciated, as with everything I post.

Edit: Apologies for bad camera/angle. Didn't realise it was as bad as it is, heh.

Hammered out a lantern in about an hour. The UVs are nightmarish, but you can't quite tell.

I'm working on a small camping scene, but the sleeping bag is too dark to see well.

Thanks! The materials are fairly simple. I just used some basic fills in Substance Painter. Mostly because the UVs made anything more complex look awful.

It's still probably the best lantern I've made. In the top three, at least. :P

Not bad! A few things, though:

- Moar contrast! If it's sunlight, the contrast is super harsh, so much so that it's actually often understated in drawings because it dominates the visuals so much. Still, this is a bit too much in the opposite direction.
- Can't quite tell if you've done it, but stroke direction for shading is also important, it should follow the contours of the form you're shading. When smudging, ideally do the same with those strokes; it's a really subtle effect, but it pushes the appearance a notch upwards.
- That one hair strand has the shadow on the wrong side of it. I also feel like the hair should have softer, more flowing curves to it, but i don't know how the reference looks, if any.
- Facial anatomy and proportions are good! The ear just needs some more love though, the shape is a bit off and is underdetailed to the point of looking more like a scoop. I'm not so cruel as to expect ears to be fully detailed all the time, but just a little lining of the bigger details goes a long way.

Otherwise doing good! Definitely registers as a realistic human face without falling into the uncanny valley. :v

This is good. Out of curiosity, I went back to see what the first thing I posted on this thread was.

Behold!

Hrm. Yes. Slight improvement.

In the same search, I came to the conclusion that about two thirds of my posts here are ridiculously cheesy puns. Case in point:

Oh, yea? Draw your sword!

Alright, so what I did is, first I compensated for the angle. I did it by taking the eye line as a guide. Then, I corrected some flaws on the facial construction and rearranged slightly the features. It may not be entierely good correction but I think it highlight where you need to go to steep getting better. It has been done very quickly, and when it comes down to it, I hadn't a lot to correct but you can see where the problem is ; slight misplacement of facial features. The eyes are too high, mouth and nose slightly off center. You'll need to work extra carefully to place them where they should be, a slight misplacement can degrade the quality a lot. The good new is, when it's done, it'll improve the quality a lot in a very short period of time. That's not a very big mountain to climb, good luck !

ALso I did this

One third of chapter 3/4 is almost finished. 58% overall

You are improving! Cathar and Shook made good comments but I just wanted to quickly highlight the thing that bothered me the most, the ear and jawline.

Spoiler: Redline (click to show/hide)

See how just adding some easy fold lines and a jaw suddenly defines the whole thing?

Spoiler: Tiny draw-over (click to show/hide)

No shading, I just filled in the lines I mentioned and slid the ear down about a centimetre so the top of the ear aligns with the eye. Literally six pencil strokes and a tiny shift, and the whole thing feels much better! Do not be afraid of ears. Most of the time, they are simple creatures that don't need all that much work.

Made a short pixel animation for a game idea I had. Highly Stylized Thor (Mjölnir not included, but Járngreipr and Megingjörð thrown in for good measure)

Much appreciated, guys.

What is this dark ear-sorcery.

Also, drat on the facial feature positioning yet again. My tactic of drawing a circle, cutting off the edges and drawing a line has evidently failed me. Is it that I should have had the eyes in the centre? I tried dividing into thirds, but maybe that made me forget more basic positioning techniques. Bah humbug.

Nonono
You have the right technique. That's how it's done. I'm not criticizing you to tell you you're wrong, you're doing things as you should. I'm criticizing you because (you asked lol, and) to tell you to continue to strive to improvement ! It's a long road and the first steps are the hardest ; after a time you'll see that become natural to you
